Project 7UP - MX5 Locost 7 Build

One small but significant update to this project. My donor car went for "the long walk" over the festive season. RIP MX5.



It wasn't until it was gone that I realised that I forgot to remove the steering rack. Oh titties.

Not too fussed, it was one of those massively over-assisted power steering ones. I'll source a non PS version when the build properly starts.

Actually the MX5 was designed for PAS the manual mx5 came later and is rather slow ratio..

Would love something like this one day as a toy, can imagine them being pretty terrifying to drive in any state of tune! A friend of mine races a Westfield with some degree of XE in it, f**king lunacy;

That may be so, but this will weigh half of what an mx5 does.

Just to add my twopenneth just use the powered rack and convert it to manual.there are a number of guides on line(you are handy with the spanners and a welder that is obvious),then you get a quicker manual rack without all the gubbins needed to drive it.

Holy Epic Thread Revival Batman!

To explain, I have went back through all the previous posts and reinserted what images I can. They were originally hotlinked from Facebook (not a smart idea at the best of times as Facebork cycles image links periodically to prevent this) and I ultimately decided to delete my entire Facebook for the sake of my own sanity.

As a result, pics went bye bye, but I HAD managed to save some key pictures on Imgur. Since discovering them again I re-engineered the links to work where I can. Apologies if some stuff is missing, but it will be gone forever.

BUT FEAR NOT!

Why? Well the project needs an update. The thread lives on......

So what does that have to do with Project 7-UP? Well, I have the guilt, and I wont let this rest. Once the TVR gets its body back on, we will be restarting this, in great detail from the very beginning, on film, and doing it right.

Our first episode for this new project is coming soon. I'll be honest, the failure to kick this project into 2nd gear before has irked me... a lot.

I think the biggest issue that folded it was (aside from being project number 4 or 5 at the time) the lack of direction for it. I was building a car for the sake of it. I had no direction.

Not so this time. OH NO! Now we have a direction. A challenge. A purpose. A target to completely fail to hit.

We are going to build a car for £1000 that will lap Knockhill in 60 seconds or less.

Target has been set.
