Quite a few threads have people telling of modern cars they've blown into the weeds in their retro motor, so I thought I'd ask what is the best modern car "scalp" you've earned... what's the fastest modern motor you've thrashed in your retro car? Me, I don't do any thrashing... I just about keep up with modern traffic! I'm working on that though ;D So, bring on the tales of giant-slaying!!

NO giant slaying but I had a great play with a new Porsche 911 (dunno what the number is now days), on the A3 between Wandsworth and Tolworth at about 1am. This was about 3 years ago in my Alfa 33 Cloverleaf,.. Was really gentlemanly,.. Both of us grinning ear to ear. Also blew a 205Gti that decided to race me off at the lights once. I don't think he thought my car was fast, just noisy,.. dunno if it was a 1.6 or a 1.9 because those identifiers are difficult to read when they are so small in your rear view mirrors My fave thing about my old Alfa was the straight through exhaust ment that my girlfriend could hear me arriving to pick her up when I was still half a mile away (Pulling off the A3 towards Putney (where she worked)) So erm,.. no modern cars,... I was once embarassed by a Porsche 944 Turbo though. It spat fire and everything. I pulled up next to him at the next set of lights, I just smiled and shrugged. This gave him a giggle

I used to make a habit of thrashing WRX's and earlier model Evo's and Lancer GSR's through the infeild at Manfeild, which is in the North Island here in NZ.
I closed my friends mouth well and truly when I showed his MR2 turbo the way home over the Port Hills Road in Christchurch.... however in a straight line I'm not so successful..... Any J FWD is easy meat over a twisty road, except for maybe some Honda's (definiely Integra Type Rs....)
However out at the drags I manage to keep far far newer FWD cars with similar engine capacity fairly honest!
Hahahaha my girlfriend has gotten used to the sound my Alfa makes.... she can distinguish it from anything else on the road now!

Upset a 540i in my bro-in-law's 1600 Mk1 GTI Golf (he got his revenge by steaming past us when we were almost flat out at 120-odd though ) Upset my mate in his 306 Dturbo when I was 18 and had my Audi 80 1600GL we were on the M1, 'playing', and he decided he was going to cut in front of me in the middle lane.... only I had other ideas... he couldn't keep up when I decided to not let that happen.... I slowed up eventually and let him catch back up.... he wasn't impressed! ;D It's all great fun!

My brother nailed 2 Delta Integrales with his Fiat 127 GT, they overtook him, red mist descended, and I think he took it of the rev counter in 4th to pass them again, it also invoved some very twisty Irish roads and switching off brain ;D Same car also saw off Calibra, Corolla Twin cam, Celicas and gave a Golf GTi 16V a run for its money, ran out of puff at 115mph on the straight. I could out drag Fireblades with my modded Uno Turbo in the dry but it wouldn't go round corners if your life depended on it The 850 has been known to overtake pedestrians

I remember, several years ago, being in my Skoda Estelle and bezzing past a mate of mine in his Chavalier SRi on a fast road - we were coming up to a roundabout, so in all fairness he was probably starting to back off anyway - but I tucked in just ahead of him (i.e. about a foot!), and when I lifted for the roundabout, the Skud over-ran and popped a big ol' flame out the exhaust which was just enough scare the bejaesus out of my Cav driving accomplice! Happy days!

The first drive out in my Mini after I had it tuned, I met a chav in a Sapphire Cossy at a set of traffic lights (jct 12 M4 if anyone knows them). After the lights there's a roundabout at the end of a 700yrd'ish slope, then on to a dual carriage way for about a mile before another roundabout.
Anyway....... I screetched up to the lights as they'd just changed, and this chav pulled up next to me, revving the car up so that the pump valve was hissing away. I sat there, didn't look, I just gave the Mini a little throttle so that it popped through the exhaust. The lights went amber and we were both off down the slope towards the roundabout. He got the better of me off the lights but I was soon alongside him coming in to the roundabout. He braked hard so I shot passed him. Dropped in to third and floored it around the roundabout cutting him up to take the inside line. It must have been half a mile until he caught me up. The next roundabout I can take at about 70mph as there's not much of a bend if you're going straight on. Again he braked coming in to the roundabout but I only lifted a little and shot through the roundabout. I waited for him to catch me up but I think he chickened out and turned round at the roundabout.

I like long walks, especially when they're taken by people I don't like.

had this experience in reverse once!
My lovely wife bought me a weekend drive in a TVR Chimera (she's lovely). with a mate on board we were tooling around the Cirencester ring road when Jonny Chav in a Chavalier SRi comes along side. Off the roundabout the front of the Chavalier goes up...he's having a go the mad curse word!
Anyway, safe to say that we arrived at the next roaundabout considerably ahead of the Chav.
Tried it on down the 419 to Swindon against a Griffith, which dropped the Chimera like a stone. Sobering to find that even in a quick car there are others in quicker ones!
Ended the weekend in true TVR style... backwards in a hedge when a greasy 90 degree bend caught me out in second geaar. It just span!!
;D ;D

Used to love taking on Novas (especially "tuned" ones with Baked bean tins for exhausts and baseball caps for crash hats) in my old Skoda Favorit.
It looked Standard on the outside, was nearly standard mechanically except for a Sebring stainless back box, but the Bucket seats dropped so much weight, and the HP Sporting Motorsport shocks took away the rest of the body roll. Even with curse word skinny old tyres and steelies, it could take off pretty well, as long as I didn't get wheelspin. Any Neddy boys don't like getting spanked by a Skoda.

I was in my Mates Fiesta Zetec-S when we were wasted by what looked like a low spec Mk2 Golf secretly I was laughing inside! Thos Zetec-S's are a bit pants, had a similar sittuation in mine.. You spent how much on a Ford Fiesta?? And its slower than a Mk1 14 Year old Citroen AX GT?.. And your Fiesta is rueting & its only 2 years old?? And you pay how much for it each month? And You look like How Much of a hairdresser in it???

True about the Favorit's: the later models especially can be really spanked along!
I remember a few years back caning the Blackline back from London: don't think I dropped below a ton all the way up!! One day I'll get round to fixing her up....

I borrowed a mates Renault 21 turbo. A great car. There was a BMW 3-series, no doubt a dismal 316 like, and a Carlton, both looking mega rough, having a race along the duel carriageway towards Middlesboro. They were both flat out, side by side at about 115. I razzed up behind them and started flashing them out the way. of course neither moved, so I just stuck behind them and nuked the pair of them as soon as it was 3 lanes. lovely.

One of the best modern cars i surprised had 2 be an Audi A4...i was cruising down the M180 towards Scunthorpe at around 60 mph in my 1980 Mk1 105S Estelle (Felicia 1.3 powered) when this green Audi A4 came passed me with driver and his wife/girlfriend/mistress laughing...i dropped into 3rd(only a 4 speed) nailed my foot to the floor and by the time i passed them the needle was sat on the 105mph mark...the look on their faces was great...105mph in a 24 yr old..4 speed Skoda ;D ;D ;D
I also upset my mates with their Escorts...Corsa's and other piles of curse word they like 2 drive in my tuned Rapid.

I was with my dad when he was driving his Rover P4 (like this one) : Coming down the A3 from Guildford towards London there is a long gentle hill, which the Rover was just trundling up,.. this family wagon comes past in the outside lane and the wife and all the kids are pointing and laughing at the car.... so..... What goes up,.. must go down,.. now with nearly two tons of weight the Rover was very very good at going down hill... fast... as we crest the hill, dad boots it (well as much as you can in a Rover P4). We go storming down the hill in the outside lane. Flying past the family wagon in the middle lane, leaving it rocking in the breeze we'd created, jaws of the passengers on the floor,... hehe -David
