Popping round to David Manners at lunchtime to see if they stock any stainless 15" wiper blades - Tex push fit ones. Last night, i managed a few hours to get the driver rear hub finished off. i'd spent the last week doing little jobs like cleaning and repainting the hub, fitting a new brake cylinder, new shoes and handbrake cable and grinding down the radius washers so they fit in the adaptor recesses. rear wheel on and taking weight then it was on to the front hub...here again the caliper was seized solid....and the discs looked completely unused despite being very rusty. my suspicion was the car brakes were rebuilt by the PO in 2007 then the car was left... Got as far as stripping off the hub unit ready for the dropped spindle, new discs+caliper and track rod end.

Over the xmas holidays i've finished off the drivers front hub refurb. Had to order an inner track rod as the bush had split but my local GSF sorted that out. then it was a simple matter of bolting the rebuilt hub back in..... A quick height check and its dropped the driver side by 2 inches/5cm from 67 to 62cm front arch to floor. i've got an adjustable beam that needs refurbing later on for further lo-lows. Not having the fuel tank fitted did make brake bleeding easier - the front caliper is the green thing lurking through the inner arch hole Got the brakes bled after doing 2 bleeds of the circuit. Not sure about the age of master cylinder, its seems to pressuring OK and the brakes appear to work but thats just me rolling the car back and forth in the garage. I'd split some brake fluid when topping up the tiddly reservoir so took the opportunity to give the bulkhead a clean

handbrake stripped and refinished in wrinkle paint only because i had a rattle can of wrinkle and fancied trying it out. happy with the finish. i also fitted a new shortshift berg style gearstick but it keeps popping out of reverse. it was very cheap so not too concerned as i may rebuilt the original stick with an empi quickshift plate instead.

Friday night i lopped about an inch from the fuel tank inlet as it won't allow the bonnet to close. Welded it back together, ground it flush then gave it a skim over the weekend. then last night, the filler neck was sanded smooth and given a coat of gloss black. Still got to do the underside with stone chip though. In between the fuel tank prep, i've plunged into the engine bay wiring. As its a fully fuel injected ford lump running EDIS, the loom is pretty manageable, requiring 7 wires to be connected to the car. Discounting the rev counter and oil pressure light, that's only 5 wires to hook up. it does help that the covin came with the full donor xr2i car loom too. the bit of loom hanging was trimmed back as its was not needed ...and stripped off the edis components to mount them on to an new engine bay wiring board, alongside a fuse box, FI and fuel pump relays. The strip of folded metal came from an old office desk at work which I've painted with some rattlecan white radiator paint that needed using up

got a coat of stonechip on the underneath of the tank and fitted the fuel outlet. the standard outlet is 6mm but fitted an 8mm one to supply the fuel injection system I'd also ordered an early style bug ivory handbrake grip and button to go with the the ivory gearknob that i'll fit eventually

the ride height still needs adjustment - i have an adjustable beam which i'll get fitted later in the year, then the rear will come down a tad

I must say this project really is fantastic. A lot of people would look down on this and think, 'Oh that's not a real Porsche', but for me, that's the whole point. It's a cheap, fun play thing, that looks a bit like an old Porker. One day, I too will join the Church of 80's fibreglass kit cars.

It feels that work is progressing rather slowly, but i'm pondering over every little bit at the moment. the swirl pot is bolted on to the bulkhead and i found a suitable piece of metal that i can bolt in as a fuel pump cradle, and i've tidied up the metal rail that it all bolts too. low pressure and high pressure pumps

and after much mulling, i've decided that the covin will go completely narrowbody, so the 8x15 fuchs are up for sale
