I managed to get the drivers door back on and aligned - took 2 attempts as i needed to remove a shim from both the top and bottom hinge. I'm happy with the fit as the doors have bowed/warped so will need some cut and shut action anyway to get the fit to be "perfect". With the door on, i dived into the storage garage to hunt for the drivers wing, and started last night to fit that. this area at the bottom of the a post where the trailing edge of the wing attaches needs some grinding back also, a feckin big hole where the oversized front tyre/7" rim rubbed through on full lock

I really like what's going on here The rotary engine idea is brilliant, and you're giving the car a whole lot of deserved attention! Keep at it, it'll soon be a peach

the last few garage sessions have vbeen to beef up the drivers wing with extra glass along the mounting edge, the arch lip and to box in the headlmap to make it more rigid

Y'know I always managed to miss this thread before... even though the name used to make me chuckle when it came up in "recent threads". Wish I'd paid more attention now! Excellent car and excellent skills on show I'm curious about that engine you've got; any idea where it came from? It's a bit of an oddity. If it's a 13B carburetted motor with a dizzy - like it looks in the (dodgy, lol) photo - then there aren't many cars it could have come from. 1st generation RX-7s in the UK only ever had 12A engines, and second generation were fuel injected. So either it's a second-gen motor that's been converted to carbs or it's out of something ridiculously rare like an RX-4. Which did have a 13B carbed engined but only sold, like, eight in the UK . Or an import. Interesting!

I'm curious about that engine Me too as I haven't a clue about its history. It's originally had a downdraft weber 48ida, but that got sold. There some nifty oil.pipes with huge oil cooler and fan, am exhaust manifold into a sizeable bike can. All out of a beetle...... I'll need some clues to ID this lump.

Get us some better photos of it dude, and I'm sure one of us rotards can guess the spec of it for you. Welcome to the Dark Side of dorito-on-a-stick engine witchcraft, BTW Cheers, Nik

more fettling of the drivers front wing last night (on and off about 6 times), which resulted in some choppy choppy to the sill end to get the wing to sit flush. does mean i need to think about how the bottom of the wing will be attached to the sill area. I'll fill the hole, to the required contour to notch the wing edge in. Radio aeriel hole filled 4 layers of glass laid up on an old dishwasher door coated with meguiars carnuba wax - need a sheet of flat grp to build the housings for the front indicator boxes

sections of flat grp bonded into the light housings work to the lower wing mounting plinth Not a very exciting update....

think the wing came off and on about 9 times to get the trailing edge of the wing in profile with the sill last night. Got a good fit/panel gap with bonnet, eventually the bonnet will be adjusted a few mm, so the gap will tighten Horn grill just resting in place to check alignment final bit of glassing to the strengthen the mounting point for the metal bracket that will attach the wing to the sill

A little step forward in that the drivers side indicator pod and horn grill are finally fitted and bolted in. Lots of test fitting to get everything to line up Now got to the same again for the passenger wing
