If it were mine, I'd restore it to original spec and maybe just add some reversible period mods.
A Lotus Sunbeam is so because of the engine, if it doesn`t have a Lotus engine then it is just a Sunbeam. But for fear of sounding like an old buffer, I'm gonna say do what you want with it, its your car.

You do know of course that a Lotus shell is different from an ordinary Sunbeam Shell? How about if I done the rest of the mods and then kept and modified the original (curse word soft) lotus lump? With throttle bodies and dry sump and 3d ignition.

Might as well have bought a 3dr Sierra shell. Either way you end up with a top car, but one way your replacing a top car with another top car, the other way your making a whole new top car

Lotus Shells are stamped on the inner wing. They have a relocated (tiny) battery box. Uprated axle. Different suspension geometry. Different bushings. And a few other bits and pieces I cant think of right now.

Geometry, bushes and Battery box can all be done on any shell, but your planning on moving the battery anyway,.. Not sure what you were planning on doing with the axle, but I can bet it'd end up getting replaced at some point anyway,.. So all your keeping is the stamp on the shell!? I'm no purist, but just seems like an expensive base shell for a project,..

A base-spec model can be picked up for peanuts, IMO that would be a better basis for a project.
You just wouldn`t have the Lotus stamp, which would be nicer on a period modified car rather than a full on, drastically modified car.

If you do keep it, don't go overboard, just a few period mods in my opinion, the Lotus was meant as a sporting model, but I think going the OTT route will just take away from the fact that it's a good sporty little car, but a great daily driver too, I mean, if you keep it it'll still be great fun with only little mods (good wheels and tyres, maybe electronic igniton etc if you feel the need for more power, but you can still use it every day. Go the OTT route and you'll not be able to enjoy the car as much, as it'll not be practical or reliable. Or if you want a racer/rally car, go for the 930cc model, put a psycho engine etc in it, and sell me the 930 for my Imp!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

You do know of course that a Lotus shell is different from an ordinary Sunbeam Shell? The difference is not a visual one so it's fairly irrelevant. The only people who will be able to spot the difference are the same people who would want to keep it original anyway. Depends if you are doing the car for yourself or to try to please or impress others. Me personally, I don't really care wether you restore it or stick a jet engine in it...all the point I'm trying to make is that what makes it desirable is it's a Lotus. Go to far and it isn't a Lotus anymore, in which case you'd have been better off selling it for large wads and getting yourself an ordinary Sunbeam to build up. The only single reason I can see for using your car is if it's a rust free one. Always easier to start with a rust free car when building any project. As I say, it's your car so it's really your call. Just voicing an opinion that's all.
