This thread needs an update....please. I really want to know what its like to live with. It’s been a few months since my last update. Have spent every spare minute finishing off, tweaking and changing various bits and pieces. Still not quite there yet, but these things evolve on a weekly basis. I’m so happy with the vans reliability and fun factor that I have sold my T4 and use the HY as my works break down truck, parts fetcher, weekend camper and daily driver. You name it this vehicle does it. And it puts a big smile on my miserable old face (and that’s hard to do these days) I am currently preparing the van for our summer holiday in France, where we will be wild camping most of the time. Therefore I am making/fitting a shower, toilet, solar panel, roof rack and a gasit system.. Oh and a huge inverter for the mrs’s *loody hair dryer…. She would rather *hit in a hole in the ground than live without that. ! ! ! ha ha This should make us totally self sufficient. Anyway a few photo’s taken last Sunday. Living with the van Dave x x

Me too , I need to know if its all worth it ! Oh yes its been worth it. Not only is this the most practical vehicle ive ever built, it also gets the most attention. The public’s reaction has been brilliant. Smiles, waves, looks of disbelief. Even had a few flag me down to chat. Best of all the Mrs’s loves it. Even buys little nick knacks to decorate it. She’s never been overly impressed with any of my hotrods. (No hair dryer socket) Will I build another… Too true I will… This is what I'm looking for next.. Dave x x

Wow. Absolutely perfect. Except i'd swap the stars and strips cushion for a tricolor de francais. Ha ha.. Yes that does look a little out of place. was only thrown in for that weekend.

Thanks for the update , its nice to be reminded what the finished project looks like ! Are those chevy step vans aluminium ? The HY was going to be a catering van but I'd rather go the camper route , and I think the misses is coming round to that idea too. Good luck with the french trip . And if you see a rear tailgate ....

I've always loved these vans and enjoyed the last hour reading though the thread. It a shame only seeing these vans used for catering. Cool camper is definitely the way to go.
I think i would be more comfortable with RHD. Is that major work?
Chevy Kurbmaster looks very cool. Another very cool van from the US is the Ford Ecoline mk1.
Hows the 3 way fridge working? Don't you need vents?

Thanks for ALL your comments folks I've always loved these vans and enjoyed the last hour reading though the thread. I was going to convert to a RHD but drove the van in standard LHD for 2 month before I started the conversion. I got used to it and decided not to bother, plus it adds to its quirkiness. Have built a few radical vans in my time and have got the urge to build another using the Chevy Kurbmaster or similar sized/shaped van as my base vehicle. Got to be slammed and chopped. As for the fridge vent you can see it in the middle of the lower panel under the opening hatch. Hope that helps. Dave
