would it be possible to adapt the crank so it would connect to a car gear box. So solving driveshaft routing problems.
Ive seen pictures of Suzuki bike engines mated to Mini gear boxes. The new Morgan trikes have an American V twin with a Mazda MX5 gearbox.

The change of direction concerning power plant is well underway...... the bike engine was throwing up far too many obstacles to make life easy or practical, it definitely was not wanting to play, so I have now gone the route of an Iconic piece of Japanese Iron, fits like it was made for the chassis and seems to clear everywhere where I need space, lets see how the gearbox goes!!!!!!!

After running bike engines in my car I have to say the benefits of a car engine in terms of being able to cruise and go backwards outweigh the super close ratio gearbox and soundtrack .

Excellent engine choice. Although I would have loved to have seen a V twin powered rod I can appreciate why you've gone this route.
With the script machined off the engine cover it could even look a bit period!

My covers are already done, script removed, bolt abutments for the plug cover removed wrinkle finished, different filler cap, possibly distributor removed from its position and end of cam fitment, different dissy too, possibly a lucas D25, that too with a cast alloy belt cover, Leads will be cloth covered but carbon internals, Retofit a V belt drive for water pump and dynamo with alternator inside, and lots of brass bits machined to make things look older, the engine will, no doubt not look like any 4AGE I know of,

Sounds ace, looking forward to watching it all progress.

How much bhp will you end up with? , won't the 4AGE not eat your axle now?

Power wise, not much more than the bike engine, a little bit more weight than the bike engine, But not as much as I imagined, as I now don't have to fit a reversing box, transfer case, and all the associated brackets, at a guess its about 40kg,

I have been slowly getting to grips with this Toyota engine and trying to make it look "older" the thing that bugs me most is the serpentine belt, for me, it has to be a Vee Belt to look right, Of course, there seems no other engine I can find has the right dimension bottom pulley, so the next option is warm up the lathe, dig out some Ally billet, and get turning, The only but of metal I have is nearly 8" and the finished dia of the pulley is 4.5", its going to be a Marathon, next problem I found is the ally is some sort of wonder metal the burns out correct ally ceramic tips like there is no tomorrow, but its slowly getting there, Its getting there, Vee cut, and hole bored, Next problem is cutting a keyway, I don't have a MinuteMan key Broach, so I made one out of a boring bar, ground a piece of tool steel to the correct width of the key, turned the tool sideways , so by mounting the boring bar in the toolpost I can run the cutter in and out of the bore of the pulley, and broach a slot 10 tho a pass, Hopefully the pictures will help explain, The next thing to do will be turn round the pulley, and machine the other side, I think I will have to machine a steel spigot, cut a key in that then fit the pulley onto that then turn it like that, the big advantage here is I know the pulley will be concentric to the other side and to the bore,

Nice work with the keyway, and obviously all the rest of the work you have done! Great to see some great engineering being done.

This will be proper perfection when its done. With that engine you could even use it daily. I'd certainly be tempted!

Love what your doing with this build, its blowing my mind, not sure if its engineering or witchcraft thats going on here!! Good, old-fashioned engineering is like witchcraft. I showed one of our apprentices log tables and my sliderule this week. He could not comprehend a time before calculators and computers. People with Ian's skills are a dying breed (literally).

Witchcraft................. has nobody noticed the swarf pentangle on the workshop floor and the Rams Head on the back wall, Ian, Even I think slide rules are witchcraft, they should be burnt at the stake........ Another bit of HocusPocus arrived with the postman today, Looks like a dynamo, but is in fact a 45amp alternator, even came with wiring diagrams, PHEW...
