This is quite possibly the best thread in the history of the forum!
I still have a few copies from 1989 - 96 knocking about. I remember buying the copy with gradzilla in it and reading it on a flight to Gran Canaria in 1993.
I wonder what happened to Tom Radford's pink SD1, Martin Ayres' orange ford Fairlane (he called it Gladys - Gladys finished!)and many others - I think John Beardmore's reliant Kitten was on ebay earlier this year.
I bought my first copy in 1989 - it had the yellow plymouth satellite on the cover. Most of my mates had escorts, I aspired to owning a V8 engine SD1. The mag was a good read - I still cringe at how expensive car parts were back in 1990!

Last thing I read on rods n sods about Tom Radfords pink SD1 it showed a pic of it in a dark metallic blue and said it was now in spain .

Gladys might of been scrapped, I seem to remember seeing it up the cruise looking very sore and rusty, I loved that car, It may have been involved in an accident too???
The SD1 is still about, It was on Jersey/Guernsey, but I think it was sold on, might be in portugal or spain??
I have some Car and car Conversions going back to the mid 60s, some real eye openers in those ads,

^^ I remember the buildup series on the tina, iirc it was going to get a 302 sbf in it also I always thought the reason it didn't get done was because baggally got smashed off his motorbike and very seriously injured? I've deffo seen another '2 doored using 2 door doors' mk1 tina wagon though - so either tim's got done, or someone nicked the idea he was an amazing editor for CC though - loved his 'intro's' ranting about hot hatches and radials / alternators on early fords haha Tim still has the Cortina, still in exactly the same condition it was after the feature ended. He's very unlikely to do anything to it anytime soon, and has said its up for sale if anyone wants it?

I have just passed that onto a mate of mine, also a mate of baggers too, and a serial cortina modifier as well,

Sweet, sweet memories. I've still got every issue of "Fruit Machine" from the early 80s, until it morphed into American Car World. I even bought some binders AND a blue and grey (bomber?) jacket. I'd probably took a right tit if I had keep it and wore it now, but at the time, I thought I was the dog's danglies!! The loft has had to be reinforced to stop my mag collection from coming through the ceiling!! Custom Car, Street Machine, Retro Cars (from the 1st ever edition, with an early incarnation of my Manta) and Practical Performance Car. Yeah, I'm a hoarder!! When we finally decide to move house, all this stuff is going in my new Man Cave.

and this one. That used to belong to a mate locally - not sure where it went from Norfolk

This is Al Barnett's salt flats Anglia with 9" roof chop and 1500GT. It was featured in Custom Car and was nothing to do with Street Machine.
Al Barnett's one of my best mates - we had a ton of fun in this car, he lent it to me and Si Woolley and I went to Le Mans in it 11 years ago - so, so many stories on this car. Especially re-finding it in Plymouth; must be 15 (?) years ago and the drive back.
It's had several owners since - the current one's re-built it and completely changed the style - his car etc but....

BTW I've seem DMC recently - it's alive and well, almost exactly as it was apart from the wheels and is probably for sale....
A trip with camera is very much on the cards!!

That is an amazing save. When I saw it all those years back, I was sure it would end up broken for parts or scrapped. You've properly done it justice. Nice one
