Is it not expensive to restore a jag (and to fuel it!)? In these austere times I applaud you for taking on Jags so wholeheartedly! Depends what you call expensive. I have done all the work myself of course. If you were to pay someone to do all the work I have done, it would run into many £1000s. I have not added up what I have spent on materials and parts, but its somewhere between £500-£750? The resto is not complete, but its in a good enough condition to start using everyday. Regarding fuel consumption, of course it uses more than a car with a small engine. It depends how hard its driven though. These AJ6 engines are capable of 30mpg or more, at motorway cruising speed, if you are careful. Mixed driving expect, around 23mpg, city driving 14-18mpg. Some 2.0 engines from the same era will struggle to best these figures, so I think they are good for a 4.0!!! Now the 6.0 is a different story!

I meant MPG and parts. But even so I'm surprised the MPG is as good as it is. Lovely cars though.

Especially compared to the likes if the rover V8, that never sees beyond 20mpg at best. Parts and generally cheap and plentiful. Of course some parts are rare and need hunting down. Certain parts I was looking for, I thought I would never find, but with enough determination they are out there. There is a strong following with the 40 now too, that helps a great deal with fault fixing, support and part finding.

This is such a rare version and it is marvellous to see you giving it new life! The quads look good - I think they suit the dark colours and sportier versions of the XJ40.

Have any pics? Mine's number 666240, in case they were made at similar times.
