Think its about time to start a thread, seeing as I've owned it 6 months already.
Well, where to start? The back end of 2012 and I'm running a Focus 1.8, nice car, fun, good to drive and handled well on cheap coilovers and 17s.
I get bored of it though and fancy something a bit more grown up. A bit of a look on Auto Trader and I'm on the way to Tamworth to pick up this.
Again, lovely car, an absolute rocket in a straight line, took the corners alright for the size, and the boot was mahoosive! Not long after picking it up, I started seeing a girl in Lincoln, and spending more and more time over there. Naturally, with the good weather we were having, I wanted to get out and about with her. It was handy she was into cars, as I stumbled across Lincs VAG on Facebook, a great bunch of guys and girls into anything VAG. I popped across to one of their meets and were happy to see another non-VW in the club. However, seeing all the older retro dubs got my creative mind flowing, and after just 6 months of turbo'd Skodaship, it was off to pastures new (the son of a *very* well known British racing legend, so its in good hands!).
With a plan of action formed, I went looking for an old VW. Thoughts of a Golf Mk1 flashed into mind, until I sat in one and realised its tiny, I'm fat, and it wouldn't happen. A close friend of mine, Adam, has owned probably every Mk2 on the planet it seems, and I've spent a lot of time round at his place, just talking cars and helping with his Mk2 projects, so it was a no-brainer that I needed a Mk2. It just ticked the boxes of being retro, cool, simple to mod, and perfectly useable as a daily. Plus, Adam has a garage full of bits that I could rummage through. Plan planned!
Then in the middle of July, I found myself driving home in this.
It came from on here, a 1989 F-reg Mk2 in 8v PB flavour. It had done 144k, had some issues and plenty of character, but perfect for what I needed. It drove back from Southampton on one of the hottest days of the year without a hitch and has been my daily since.
Next part coming in a moment.
