Never driven one but, certainly in their purer early guise, I always thought they were a good looking car.
The quirky suspension is a good system, though there are technical areas id want to change if I had one.
If I get the chance to drive one I shall jump at it.

That two door mk1 is great! Who wouldn't want to own that? Especially with that interior.

My mum bought a green (I think Tundra Green?) one when I was a kid and it had green plastic interior also. I used to think it was leather and the seats would be roasting hot in the summer! Even as a kid I thought it was cool. She paid £300 for it in about the early 90s Id love to have it now..

I like Allegros, often daydreamed about Mk1 trimmed Equippe spec estate, I love the shape of the estate, nowt else much like it. I think values will probably rise abit over the next couple of years, but longterm the suspension will claim alot of them, like Maxi's and anything else with hydro systems unless its modded. The majority will choose the ease of fords and vauxhalls, but the hardcore BL nut will still want their slightly more unusual choice, though it will take more work to keep it. Already a respected classic I recon, has been for a while.

fitted MGF rear displacers all round! You got any onfo on that, sounds a good way to keep them going for many more years

The displacer physically fit, but need the knuckles extending.
Fronts about 55mm, will measure the rear.

For me, there's two Allegros I'd want; this one: Or a Limeflower estate with the Vanden Plas front end and a Paprika interior.

It's an old thread for sure . IMO the Allegro is an Automotive Spud but then so many BL products are despite being a pioneer of the way things are today in many ways. The Maxi IMO paved the way for the modern family hatch as we know yet it is an unsung hero. The Allegro falls into this category too. If BL were possibly not on strike as much, did not let the bean counters get their way as it seemed to be the case in addition to marketing them a little better than they were the classic landscape today may have been a little different. I shall end this post on a sad topic. Considering that Rover were responsible for developing the BINI with BMW taking it over during yet another BL selloff do you honestly think MGR could have capitalised on it as BMW did? Not in a month of Sundays. It is a hurtful comment but it does seem to be true going by the chances BL/BMC, Austin Rover and MGR had. I mean, they had the 800 series, the Triumph Stag, Dolomite Sprint, amongst a plethora of other opportunities, only seeming to throw them away. It is a real shame that none of them were a significant success. This however may be the reason for why many enjoy a slice of Leyland produce. Purely rubbish or untapped potential?

Love the Allegro. Had my first driving lesson in an almost new 1500LE automatic when I was about twelve. Owned a 1300 A series powered one for a while in the '90s. I'd have another one any day if the opportunity came along. I do not agree that they are too big a car for the A series engine being no bigger than the ADO16 they replaced. Just rebuild that lump to Cooper S spec plus a bit like an old man I knew did with an ADO16 in the '80s and watch the disbelief on people's faces when you leave their bigger, newer cars behind.
