i shall get one of the repatriation flights i think. i have been here in similar circumstances (martial law following the coup) but i was younger then and the issue was local, not global. my elderly father (in the uk) tells me that he is very much looking forward to isolating himself for several weeks ! paul Whichever choice you make, good luck! How about relocating to Borocay for the duration? Nice thought, but Mr D's anticipated this by ordering hotels to close. Spoilsport!

Confusing in the Phillipines…… not much better here..... Got to wonder what's happening to all those poor unfortunates displaced by that itchy volcano..... world has long forgotten them. And lets hope the volcano is done being itchy...… Nick Fortunately, the volcano is quiet at the moment but yes, the refugees have no mention. Quite how you practice social distancing in a crowded centre is difficult to imagine. Mind, quite how it works down LA Cafe also makes the mind boggle.

George, hopefully things don't get too bad for you in confusion central - as it stands sh1t's getting real here at the moment... all six counties in the San Francisco Bay area are on "shelter-in-place"; it hasn't happened down here yet but, all bars (steady there George) are closed, all restaurants are closed except for take away and delivery and I suspect it won't be long until the whole state is under a shelter-in-place order.
Please keep us in your thoughts as I am down to my last two cans of Guinness...

Please keep us in your thoughts as I am down to my last two cans of Guinness... Already there. Bars and restaurants closed, hotels only open if they have existing guests, no new. To be fair, I normally only go out for a beer on a Saturday or Sunday lunch. Drink at home other than that, so not a big hardship. As long as the local Mini-Stop keeps stocked, I'll live! Trust you come out safe and sound, and with a much improved beer supply. Sorta good-ish dog news:- Yesterday, the remaining pup took poorly. She'd been fine on Monday but in the morning, she was really down. To me, she was displaying none of the signs that the others did, yes she'd been sick, but no runny eyes/nose, etc. However, as you can imagine, we feared the worse and I asked the vet to pop round after surgery. She duly did and examined the pup and immediately went into her spiel about distemper and isolation for the sake of her and the other dogs. Madam was, naturally, pretty upset. I took a phone call then and came back into the room later, in time to be instructed to not give antibiotics but keep up on the vitamins. This morning Madam came to chat and casually threw in how pleased she was with the pups blood test. "What test?" I asked. "The spot test vet did last night. No distemper. Now thinks it's just tummy upset" WHAT? Here's me been worrying all morning because nobody noticed I'd missed a slightly important piece of information! Seems a bit brighter today so now we just keep a watching brief and plenty of fluids.

Good dog news is always good news!
As predicted, all businesses in Orange County are now closed unless they are considered essential - just waiting for that shoe to drop in Los Angeles county now.
We have had the usual panic run on the supermarkets - so Monday shopping was a bit bleak. We have an order for delivery that is scheduled for next Monday... actually the missus thought it was for this week until she waited in vain before finally checking! Hopefully our full order will be fulfilled.
The hotels here have been less considerate - guests have been given a few days but then they must get the flock outta Dodge. Nevada has issued an order closing all the casinos... that's 440 major resorts.
Interesting times indeed.

If everyone is kicked out of hotels and they can't catch flights home... What do they plan on doing with all the newly homeless tourists/businesspersons?

Internal flights aren't affected at this time - at least, not to my knowledge.
Here is what the orangutan-in-chief responded when asked about a domestic travel ban:
"We’re not really. We hope we don’t have to. We think that hopefully, we won’t have to do that. But it’s certainly something we talk about every day. We haven’t made that decision"
I tried running it through Google translate but it seems moron isn't a supported language at the moment.

If everyone is kicked out of hotels and they can't catch flights home... What do they plan on doing with all the newly homeless tourists/businesspersons? At least that's been considered here. Impressed, huh? Just as well, as we have a fair few expats who rotate in and out during the project, so use hotels as apartments aren't viable for them. At least those who are already here will have somewhere to lay their weary heads! Internal flights aren't affected at this time - at least, not to my knowledge. Flights are a bit different here in that the lockdown, which started as Metro Manila, has now spread across Luzon, the main island, however, I imagine the other 700 or so others have their own arrangements. So God knows! Here is what the orangutan-in-chief responded when asked about a domestic travel ban: " We’re not really. We hope we don’t have to. We think that hopefully, we won’t have to do that. But it’s certainly something we talk about every day. We haven’t made that decision" I tried running it through Google translate but it seems moron isn't a supported language at the moment. Brilliant! P.S. Just been up Mini-Stop as my "working" day comes to a close. Got beer!

I think that Orange County has taken a leadership initiative course run by the same people in charge of your manor George. Yesterday, the Health Department issued a press release that clearly, and unequivocally ordered all non-essential businesses to close. Today, they have issued another press release telling us that it didn't say what it absolutely said and that we are responsible for fully reading and understanding the Health Care Order... then it went on to say that the original order was confusing and they didn't mean it to mean what it meant and that they would issue another order later... *sigh* These are the people we are trusting with our lives... I think I can safely say, having read George's thread, that I am beginning to understand what life in the Philippines is like... it's more confusing in the Philippines everywhere

To be completely fair, and where's the fun in that, it's been the company who were frozen with indecision rather than government The same happens over earthquakes, volcanoes and typhoons. They have no idea what to do or how to instruct us. Bear in mind, most of us are contractors, so no work = no pay, which is an ideal breeding ground for those who may have been in contact with a known COVID carrier to risk it and come in. But we had no guidelines as to what would happen to pay if we'd had that contact and went into self-isolation, despite being able to work from home. It took action from the government to force everyone's hand and allow WFH. I've been arguing for this for two years, given the time wasted in commuting, but to no avail. Maybe now... On stuff from government, whilst there's probably room for a more structured approach, their default position is normally to go for the hardest measures as soon as possible. I suppose this comes from dealing with the natural phenomena named above, which tend not to leave much time for deliberation and need immediate action. They're actually quite good at the immediate stuff, it's the longer term recovery that tends to be a tad lengthy. gtviva we're going through bog rolls at an alarming rate, but this has more to do with six dogs we can't take out until they have the all-clear from the vet. Thank God for tiled floors! Keep yer heads down!

take care all

I'm sitting at my dining room table right now and pretending I'm in the office. We're not in full panic mode yet but many of us are trying out working from home just in case. Using autocad on a laptop sucks more than just a bit so if working remotely becomes the norm I'll be bringing home my two auxiliary screens as well. Stay safe everybody and keep reporting in. I believe personal experiences are of more value in keeping others informed of the true situation around the world than the news/propaganda websites will ever be.

Woke up this morning to find my garage broken into and most of my tools missing. Really Pi$$es me off as I can now spend the day sorting this $hit out ,instead of making medical components that could save thousands of lives over the next couple of months😡

Now that is a bummer! Sorry to hear that. Let's hope they catch something more virulent and deadly, but much, much slower acting than COVID. Hope you get it all sorted, but replacing tools is one of those, "Oh damn, I forgot to get..." just at the wrong moment.

So sorry to hear that, Johnny... I hate thieving bastards.
Same thing happened to me years back when my motorcycle shop was broken into. Bad enough that they got the normal tools, but they also got very specialized tools that most people would have no idea what they were for.
