Mercedes 190/C series/E series/S series ?? This. Mine was far less than that with 12 months test and 6 months tax, been in daily service for 2 months and 3k miles with zero issues, in total comfort. Pity it only does 22mpg...

Mk2 MR2 non turbo T bar simply brilliant car. Brilliant handling bomb proof J engineering and almost 40 mpg if drive sensibly.

Some great suggestions. Of all the ones people have said, I think mx5s and mr2s could be my favourite idea. Anything I get is purely a toy, I have a van if anything needs moved. I just fancy something fun to drive that's nimble. Some of the barge ideas are good too like jags and 7 series BMWs.

Volvo 300 series dirt cheap, RWD engine at the front gearbox at the back so well balanced. They be good cars and a lot of fun to drive and for even more fun and awesomeness get an auto one for rubber band power.

There's always the MGF Otherwise stuffing a big v8 from luxury car (aka 7, S-class, LS) into a junior executive car (aka 3, C-class, IS) sounds like a fun toy.

There is or was a e21 on ebay a wee red one looked not to bad aswell. There is a gold coloured one up in musselburgh but be aware its a dog . I went to see it about a month ago when another guy was selling it for 900.00 I offered him nothing near that as it requires a lot of work someone else has it up for 1600.00 and its had 5 owners and only 41.000 . ?? Amazing

Less than a grand? Really? Didn't realise they were that cheap, I'll have to look for one, they're on my list.
