kerosene is what i use now in the parts washer except it has some old diesel in it as well.
Petrol for the stubborn stuff. I tried some other stuff and it stripped the skin of my hands and the paint from the parts washer and was a sh!t compared to kerosene.

I use jizer. It's doesn't work out too expensive as I effectively use it three times. In my clean tank, then dirty tank then pre wash before steam cleaning. Also good for thinning veg oil down for the car in the winter lol.

We use a lot of Dasty degreaser from the wibra. Do not know if this is also available in the UK. Epic degreaser.

Thanks, just googled it. Looks like sugar soap, which apparently also works a s a de-greaser. Might give that a try first as I have some lol.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far, keep them coming though.

Petrol or the spray on Mr muscle oven cleaner if you want to Splash out! Just a word of caution on Mr Muscle, don't get too much on ally parts or it will clean it so well it dissolves the metal!

The "GUNK" red stuff from Halfrauds worked a treat for me on a 71 minor engine with many, many leaks and years of engrained oil.

I've tried carb cleaner which is great as is the aforementioned petrol, bar its issues as pointed out by Paul.

No nonsense degreaser from screwfix, about £8 for 5ltr and it seems to clean everything really quickly. Plus it's biodegradable and waters down well.
Gets oil stains off driveways, cleans off dirt, does a good job on cooked on brake dust.
I use it mostly for cleaning old bikes, just spray it on and hose it off again.
