Alfa Alfa Alfa Alfa (and a couple of Lotusessesses')Yes, here comes the thing that rocked my world.... but first this Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr The Lotus stand was populated 90% with sevens, seven replicas, sevenish types things and all things small and rollerskateish. It did however also have this Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr There were a lot of other bits and pieces in the Lotus stand to be fair (as you can see from the above picture), but a lot of it was modern. Anyway, that isn't important right now, what IS important is the Alfa stand, which sort of became a generic Italian car stand as far as I could see because it started with this Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr It is a real shame we didn't get them in the UK, or I'm assuming we didn't get them as I've never seen a RHD version. A Lancia got in on the action too Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr In fact there were a couple Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Including this slice of wonderful Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr You could be mistaken for thinking this was the Lancia stand and I'd just mislabeled it, but notice the Ferrari and VW parked up, there was no sign posting to say it was anything other than the Alfa Romeo area, however the French are fairly relaxed about these things, so we shall be too. Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr So pretty in baby blue, or is it duckegg blue? Or some other blue? Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Right... here it comes... here is the thing that made my day/week/month... but first, an Alfa 90 Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Which was parked next to this... *drumroll* Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr This is an Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint Speciale, it is my favourite Alfa Romeo ever built, and despite flirting with Astons, Chevrons or Facel, Alfa Romeo remain my favourite. The Giulia (or Giulietta) SS is (to me) the most beautiful car ever made and I've never seen one in the flesh before, I really wasn't expecting to see one here, even with all the other stuff around. I certainly wasn't expecting to see two.. Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr In fact in total I saw eight of them.. EIGHT... I SAW EIGHT Giulia Sprint Speciale in one place... I could have got in my car and gone home then to be honest, I was done. However, I soldiered on for you good folk to bring you the rest of the event, remember I did it just for you... The week before going to Le Mans Classic I was with my wife when we saw one of these in the traffic, she declared it the ugliest Alfa ever made (her father is an Alfisti so she kinda knows the brand quite well)... I kinda like them Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr When you drive all day down the Autoroutes you end up with quite a lot of bugs on your car Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Another beautiful bit of Alfa and Zagato mastery Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr and something a touch more brutal Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Tim was rather taken with the Alfa Montreal, they are a brilliant car, sadly not as fast as I'd like, but I'm sure that can be fixed Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I wish the Alfa vans were much more available, I've only seen a handful for sale over the years and they are either proper crazy money or totally rotten (which may explain the money for the nice version) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Oh look a Sprint Speciale Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr and a plain old Sprint (note it is next to another SS) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr The yellow lights on these look great Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Our last one from the Alfa stand, looking wonderful in white Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr So there we go, the big reveal of my day highlight, probably not as exciting for some people, but I suspect there are a few people out there that get it Up next we have more Italian sports cars and GTs than you can shake a (very expensive) stick at.

Exotica EverywhereUnlike my mobile phone reception there were exotic cars all over the place, here is a selection from the Lamborghini and Maserati stands I love the shade of blue this is, anyone know what it is by any chance? Or am I going to be looking at classic Lamborghini colour charts? Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Wiiiiiiide Angle needed for this one Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Pair of Contaches just hanging out Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr 400GT has such a nice roof line/cockpit shape, never been a big fan of the lights though Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I spent ages waiting to take this picture, people were constantly walking in front of the car, or behind the car, or over me, as I waited to take it. Just as I'm about to click the shutter some floppy haired goon walked into shot at the back of the car and started talking to his mate, I waited some more, but got bored and took the picture, just as aforementioned floppy haired goon opened the boot of his car to get something out Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr On to the Maserati stand Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Between that photo and the one below about an hour passed as I met up with Jonathan Moore (of Speedhunters fame*), wherein we discussed cars, traveling, up coming stories and how one day we'll revolutionise the magazine/website world, just as soon as I've got a spare five minutes. Right, I wasn't going to post anything until you were all done but then you go and find that bubble Lancia thing with the fins! I don't even know what it is! Other than simply superb and that I want to stroke it.
Also, many lulz at the Miura caption.

Right, I wasn't going to post anything until you were all done but then you go and find that bubble Lancia thing with the fins! I don't even know what it is! It is a Lancia Appia Zagato GTZ (double bubble) of which apparently 39 were built. I have no idea if this is original or a replica (although it would be a most obtuse replica to build).

Not Aston MartinsAs you may have noticed from the 'Alfa' stand, a number of the one make car clubs mix up their showings, the winner from my point of view was the Aston Martin stand, because not only did they have this rather grand VW (that was at the Château on the Friday) Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr But they also had this truly magnificent sled Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr ... and I'm going to say the person who had the most awesome drive to the event was the owner of this, imagine hammering down the Autoroute and then the country lanes in it... Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Is there no standard anymore? What it takes, who I am, where I've been. BelongEvery generation covered Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Gah! So pretty Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I remember seeing my first DeTomaso Pantera parked up at Brands Hatch some time in the late 80's, it was this model in this exact colour, it left a lasting impression on me and in the intervening years my boyhood wanting for one hasn't diminished [/url Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Now days though I'd take one of the earlier ones Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr In fact I'd take this exact car Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr ^^^ That car was part of the prompt for the Cafe Racer thread, if you look at its components it is basically the cafe/gentleman racer style applied to a super car, interior, paint, details, spot on. Perfect. When I said all generations were represented, I wasn't forgetting the mega unusual very late models Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Again I nearly flipped out when I saw that, never thought I'd see one in the flesh, I'm not even sure how many actually got manufactured I shouldn't have been surprised to see another a couple of cars along Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr because Le Mans Classic Pantera wasn't the only DeTomaso there, the beautiful Mangusta was also in evidence Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Oh and there was this unique car, the DeTomaso Mangusta Spider... Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Next up we move beyond the one make stands and get our diversity on, before finally fading enough that we need to head back to the Château and re-charge...

Last Of The Daylight HeroesIt is about time get some closure on this. By this point in the day were were starting to fade, the day had been pretty hot and we'd done a lot of walking. As we walked we noticed there was another huge section of club stands we didn't even know was there, as well as some more up on a level we couldn't work out how to get to (including the Datsun stand)... we never saw any of this in the end, what we did see was the mainly mixed make stands from some of the general classic clubs. So lets see what our tired and battered bodies managed to photograph. Yay! some modified stuff Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr and here is the final day time photo, so you can admire how people free (in the most part) all these other photos are. Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I did it all for you folk, and a little for me. One last part, the handful of night shots which didn't totally suck. In the mean time picture two very tired, slightly sunburn guys buy a burger each for 15 euro (FIFTEEN EURO... Well these two seem to have the same "wide 5" pcd so I' hazard a guess that the roadster is some sort of Panhard or at very least based on the same running gear.

Are you done now, lol? Cos I'm pretty much spent Truly exceptional thread, and thanks for taking the time to actually, like, type stuff in as well for those of us who are hard of thinking in the audience. I was going to say that for this alone... ...you win the internet for at least the next couple of months. But then you went and did this... ...and this... ...and despite a sneaking feeling you might be a) showing off and b) trying to actually cause me an injury from an engorged automotive lust gland, you might as well just keep the bloody internet indefinitely. Go on, take it, do what you like with it. You've earned it One of the things I'd promised myself was to take some better photos for a change. Yeah, I should say so! P.S. This; contrary to the disingenuous numberboard (maybe it's ironics?) is actually the 1929 Bentley 6.6 litre Speed Six nicknamed "Old Number One" what won le Mans in '29

Darkness descends and the animals come outAfter heading back to the comfort of the Château getting nice and relaxed, grabbing a little bit more to eat and a nice cup of tea we headed back to the circuit for a little bit of something I've never done before. Night racing. When we got there we tried rather unsuccessfully to take some photos of some of the club cars using the power of the tripod and long exposure, none of them came out very well so they have not been uploaded on the t'internet. I then proceeded to take a fairly hefty number of poor quality photos of some rather exceptional cars on the track, these are the ones that came out identifiable as pictures of cars. A little bit of action Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr GT40 doing what it was designed to do Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Corvette sounded monsterous, deep and raw as it sped past Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Lola T70 is gorgeous in the flesh and makes a rather wonderful noise as it zooms through the night Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr Chevron B8 looks as awesome at night in France as it does the rest of the year Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I tried to take an interesting picture of a Porsche 917 Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr I was mildly unsuccessful. Porsche 914/6 was in with this lot and seemed to be doing okay for itself Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr The very last picture for out little French adventure is to make up for not taking a photo of many Porsches earlier, here is a Porsche 906 racing through the night Le Mans Classic 2014 by RetroSceneMag, on Flickr And then we went home. Well actually we slept, and then heading home, got lost in Rouen along with a number of other people, including a nice couple in a Porsche who we followed and then who followed us as we both got increasingly lost. Then we got on a train and came home. Awesome. Fin.

This is a fantastic thread. Thank you for taking the photos, and also for the effort and time involved with the write-up. It must be so tempting to just dump the photos up, but the commentary makes it so much more enjoyable to read/ogle! :-)

i managed to take more pictures of m/c than cars!!
contact the ACO re: a list of acceptable cars they would like to admit to the infields, google-foo failed me at moment.
mixed club status 'may' be a little easier but they are supposedly tightening up ie this year b-in-law with CAP72 had to submit pics of car showing reg plate plus details of said car to gain entry, not too sure whether pic is on pass? - turn up in another car, get turned away even with appropriate billet. trying to prevent people applying for infield parking then turning up in rep-mobile or family wagons.
i know some will get by but didn't see that many modern boxes, if any, on the infield parking?
