I started this thread nearly four years ago, and i still like the idea, so we'd better get on with it. first bit: badge from HK, hopefully it'll be mostly done before this gets here. Ordered these from who knows where: www.oponeo.ie doesn't actually appear to be Irish, so i really don't know where the warehouse is, maybe I'll get an email after the weekend with a tracking number or something. They are 615mm (in theory) diameter, i know they'll fit, but might be a bit small for me, if so the missus will have them on her fiesta, and i'll go look for something in there 650-680mm zone. and a f13 gearbox with a suitable diff ratio. Before i disappear on my night shift, i need to find some opel combo C front struts and springs and rear springs from a vectra A/cav mk3, not sure of the rear dampers yet, hopefully it'll only be a problem with the bolt diameter as that's an easy fix. Some parts of those black archs may be eradicated. on 560mm tyres right now.

Interesting project. Look forward to progress. Fyi, corsa b rear shocks fit a mk3 cav and are much much shorter than stock. Assuming corsa c rears didnt change much, hopefully mk3 cav shocks will be a great cheap long damper option

In a patch of dry weather, i though i'd better get out and do some stuff (other then lose kerbals in orbit) Previously had given up on looking for a fresh set of 14" steels, so spent some time digging out my old ep70 starlets wheels. only found three in the end Cracked on anyway: not shown is the rears knobblies on the et49 wheels. too dark for seeing the tools on the ground after i was done, never mind photos. also not shown is the general state of the car, ARB drop links rattly, disc's have a nice lip on them, lhs ABS sensor cable rubbing off the wheel, a rear damper weeping. oh an front tires were like this: passed an NCT a few weeks ago, total waste of 55€. I've driven all of about 10 miles now, the et38 wheels have against my expectations lightened the steering wheel load during cornering. not really sure why but with the EPS disconnected i'm happy out. Speedo's a little bit out. Got a tiny bit of rubbing braking over some bumps, can't see where yet. will go find some mud on Thurday. and return those mk4 springs.

oh an front tires were like this: passed an NCT a few weeks ago, total waste of 55€. NCT done by phone these days then? My Corsa Combo van used to do that to the rear tyres, put it down to being run on the load limit all the time. I just got used to it and rotated them round to wear them out.

no suspension tricks yet, need mk3 astra rear springs, the mk4's i was given are too soft/long and off a totally different axle.

I was thinking when I saw the pic "they don't look like mk3 astra rears!"
You weren't kidding about 'digging' out the wheels either

i dig all sorts out of that, perfect when i need the exercise. Usually takes longer to cut them out then it does to get em running. Found one small muddy hill to attack, mega ruts and holes half the size of the car, did great. Didn't do it twice, Farmer in his real 4x4 was judging me. springs are being an pain, no problem returning the mk4's, but they don't have any mk3's. Need to get em locally really because i've no hard info on what will fit or even sizes so i'd rather work locally and be able to return them easily. any ideas what other vauxhalls use a similar axle/spring? it appears pre 98 is too old for my scrap yards.

Well Christmas was dull. Hardly snowed at all But today, the springs! Both the corsa and astra estate springs have a 40mm opening, but the other ends were 35 and 55mm, stuck 'em in any way, they really can't fall out. combo strut on the right with some cleaned up thrust bearings Rears on, axle stands no longer tall enough. sweet. Shocks aren't long enough, lots of topping out, left rear is worse with a weeping shock. increase static sag with strategically placed "curse word that i had lying about the place" and here it is in the local supermarket car park (mcdonalds was too far) The Fat Chicks Love It
