I'm going to cover the dash. Wood isn't a bad idea but it's most likely going to be the same black fabric that's covering everything else in the car. The fact that the gauges aren't lined up, that's the least of my concerns. The type of person that is bothered by that, would never buy this car anyway. The black wheels helped, covering the dash will help, I'll think about the seats, the Jetta seats don't bother me, you can't see them when you're sitting on them.. hahaha You have just answered all the negative comments, highlighted above. Most of the idiots who sit in a comfy chair surfing the web, never felt a grinder disc disintegrate and smack their shins or searched for the right set of rails for some seats in a breakers yard. Screw them all. The only person you need to worry about is yourself and the pleasure you gain from the car. And possibly the guy with the cash in hand who wants to buy the car. Idiots abound on a build like this, there will be people who help with ideas, and people who hate the badge, wing, wheels, whatever. I rarely see them take on a challenge like this. I love it, and thank you for sharing on here.

I haven't commented much but kept up with the build and l for one say you car is bloody brilliant and l would be more than happy to have it on my drive, this forum is about what can be done not why you did it, if you asked your self why then perhaps you wouldn't have done it. I think your next project should be a mustang with a 3.0 BMW turbo diesel motor and a proper multi link rear suspension that should ruffle a few feathers!

Haha! A mustang with a diesel! hahaha That's an awesome idea. I'm thinking a Diesel Cummins out of a Dodge truck though! Now that's the kind of thinking I really like.

I must say, it looks much nicer with black wheels. What about fabloning (is that even a word?) the dash in wood? Or sticker bomb with a Japanese theme just to annoy the haters even more

I don't care what any of them keyboard warriors say, this build is the tits and has spurred me on to do more work on my own project. It has even influenced my build, I may have stole the yellow from the engine and done my whole chassis the same colour Keep it up man I can't wait to see what you do next

My vote would be for the Cummins. It's an awesome engine and easily tunable to insane horsepower. I'll leave you with the clip below

OH. YES! IIRC there seems to be some more Youtube videos of it on the drag strip. Does a 9 second quarter float your boat?

I just found these: 100 dollars ONO (we say OBO "or best offer", but yeah) So for 80 bucks, guess what the Maserati is getting on Thursday, provided nobody gets there first....

Personally, I think the comments on the seats and the dials are valid. The seats I don't think would hold you as much as you need when doing donuts (very important ), and the dials are an OCD thing. Still, the rest of it is fine and would be a heap of fun. Perhaps an autocross or 2 to help test things

Yeah, fair enough but if you're OCD, you'd better stay faaaar away from this car because for perfection, you need to spend money. Lots of it. Which I clearly didn't. Keep in mind what this is: Fun. Silly. Cheap. Cool. Different. To re drill that dash, I would have had to scrap the entire thing and it was over 200 USD to have it curve cut to match the windshield and bend it. So the gauge commenters theory is that because the gauges went in a little off center as a result of the cheap hole saw walking off line a bit, I should spend 200 more dollars?
The OCD guys would just find something else to complain about, so it would have been like taking 200 bucks and throwing it out the window. Not to mention the several days wait time and all the extra work. The dash is not coming out without removing the cage or cutting the dash in half. I'll pass on that job, they can buy the car and make a new dash with perfectly centered gauges because in the grand scheme of life, it matters not. They could always lay on their back inside the car, mark and remove every wire that's under there, on every pin of every switch and gauge, cut a square panel out of the dash, drill that panel perfectly in line and utterly indexed and put it over top of the hole you just cut and re-install all the wires, gauges and switches... Boy, being OCD must suck. It's not a 10,20 or 30,000 dollar thing I hope they know.
The grey Jetta seats that are in it, they're actually really comfortable. They still don't bother me but hey- I bought the entire Jetta interior for fifty bucks, so again, I'll put the cheap eaby specials I found second hand because I'm not over my head on the seat budget and lots of people don't like them, but the OCD guys will just complain that I didn't put 700 dollar Sparco seats in it. To which I will reply, buy the car and stick whatever seats you want in it- it's only four bolts each side plus fabricating the mounts to fit the floor pans. That should be real simple for someone that can afford Sparco, Bride or Recaros. Heck- they could just drop it off at the OCD race shop and pay them for perfection?
They'll probably hate this then, but I don't. I might put police car lights on it and put "To Protect and Serve" on the doors and mount a shotgun inside, just for laughs: (well, I could but probably won't)

Looks flippin brilliant if you ask me! What the hell's wrong with the guages?!? Seats look fine in there as well, buckets will look good too
Fair play for the amount of work you have put in in a short space of time to get this up and running and looking so good.
Only thing I would like to see would for it to be a little lower, but I know that you would have sump issues, and make it less drivable if that were to happen.

I suppose I can't really comment on the seats, as I haven't sat in Jetta seats, but having driven a lot of cars, most standard car seats just aren't grippy enough for hard cornering. But $50 is $50, and you can buy a few beers with that money.
I had 3 gauges (oil.p, oil temp and water temp) in my GT-R that were loose when I bought it. So I put them where the ash tray used to be. They were just wedged in... That did for a while, then I got a mate to laser cut a bit of steel. I didn't draw the template straight enough, so the holes were off on the plate... it stayed like that for then next couple of years I owned the car, but I was getting to the stage where I just wanted to rip the gauges out and have a standard dash. So yes, I'm a little OCD, but also incredibly lazy. But with yours being all one piece and custom made, I can understand why you don't want be too OCD about things. Get out there and enjoy giving it a hiding.
