WHEW! That was tough, swapping those doors. Drilling out the old screws, changing the little metal arm/spring lever? that keep the door from opening too far. I used the roll pin section from the donor car's metal, I separated the bracket and welded it in the door jamb. Now both doors are done and open & close like they should. I moved the work area into the basement because it got really cold outside and this was easier. I'll paint them later this week, I got called out for a job.
Oh, and my little hood scoop arrived. It'll blend in better, when the entire car is done. Right now it might seem out of place, but the desired effect, is in the completed product, trust me.

It took many, many hours to remove all the old powdercoating from these wheels. They're in primer right now.
I had them in and out of the bead blast booth twice after these pics. Many coats of stripper, sanding, scraping, blasting- I even tried the old trick of soaking powdercoating in brake fluid. It did nothing. This was seriously thick old powder on these wheels.

The temperature has dropped and it's -20 C outside and I'm just not going to heat the garage for a couple days. Not much for updates until it goes closer to the freezing mark.

You bead blasted them TWICE? were they coated in kryptonite? my friend who owns a powder coating business does sometime 'pre-bake' wheels as a way to get the impurities under the old power to pop and burn off, makes blasting them a little easier and stops the new powder from giving him hassle. Pretty much essential to degas wheels that get chrome plated.

Yeah, I've removed powder coating before, it was never this tough. I actually do powder coating, here. It's all good, I got it all off and they're painted & I'm going to get new propane tanks so I can get back at the dash & wiring tomorrow.

I stripped the powder coat (shadow chrome) off my wheels by soaking them in paint stripper - just peeled straight off but took about 48hrs for each wheel :-o

This might not seem like anything special, or that big of a deal to most car guys, but this is a big deal to me. I was more worried about this portion of the build, than any other.
This is the most complex wiring job I have ever attempted. Chris W helped me understand how to correctly build a relay block, thanks for that. I have a main relay, a starter relay and a fuel pump relay. All fused and switched.
Now that I have the basic system assembled, I can add things like headlights, wipers, heat/defrost etc. It made more sense to wire the dash out of the car, for the first time. It will all be sort of plug & play when I put it back into the car.
Now I can get back to fabricating dash brackets, the roll cage, the transmission linkage- you know, all the simple stuff. I am beyond happy to get this part of the wiring done. I'll put fuel to it tomorrow and make sure it fires up, but I'm 95% sure that it will.

The plan was, to put fuel to it today. I didn't want to run temporary lines, I know it'll run. I might as well run the fuel lines from the tank and do it right. So, there was a little problem, when I took the tank out of the car, weeks ago, I broke the supply nipple because I used brute force and snapped it off. I didn't look at it close enough, but anyway- I knew about it and I got the broken piece out. Because Citroen owned Maserati right before these were made and then DeTomaso used up whatever parts were left laying around putting these things together, this odd fuel nipple has fine thread, likely metric, but could have been French thread? Who cares. I visited the big specialists today and they said- "Wow, never saw threads like that before". Of course. No big deal. Alright folks- Now THIS- is COOL.
I still have lots to do, lights, heat/defrost, brake lights, transmission install, roll cage, sound deadening, carpet, proper fuel & brake lines, THE RADIATOR isn't in yet, the driveshaft made, some more structural bracing under the car, the relays for the power windows- There's work to be done.
I absolutely, without a doubt could not have done it without the internet and the people that post there. I am forever in their debt.
This is serious stuff, it's really important that I've learned so much in the last 2 years. You guys all have value, that stretches across the globe. If I were still in a hard rock band, I would belt out a giant 80's heavy metal scream. But I'm not. So forget that stuff. :laugh2:
