I'll try to avoid dragging you in to help Don’t worry, be pleased to give you a hand as it progresses Anyway once I get to a point where I can stop for a bit haven't we got a Porsche 944 to weld up ready for #RRG15 - I'd rather practice on your car I finally have a car sized space in the garage

Excellent I'll shout when the new body needs lifting I`m available for that too What with your recent deadlift practice you'd be ideal I'm under no illusion that if and when I get to that point I need to have a few things sorted Better weather - it has to be done outside Several cases of beer and soft drinks BBQ ready with plenty of meat ready to cook and lots of pasta salads and baked potatos And lastly Camera set up for time lapse so that we can verify the number of lifts it required before any welding could take place

OK tonight's progress Finished of cutting the back end off (left a little chassis rail just in case I need it) Apologies for the rubbish picture quality - garage camera batteries died and my mobile phone camera isn't quality Added the first extra brace The other side almost ready to do but I ran out of cutting and grinding time I think what I need to do next is go visit the Commodore and take some dimensions so I know where I need to take some more metal off

Enjoying watching the car destruction, in the name of the greater good! I take it since you still seem rather chipper about it all that the cage is not bent

I take it since you still seem rather chipper about it all that the cage is not bent I was wrong to ever have any worries about the cage bending - 48mm OD and a very substantial 3mm wall is a bit OTT for a cage (and a 75 kg weight) and it's doing a damn fine job right now keeping all the corners where they should be. Cutting has revealed loads of areas where in a year or two max major repairs would have been needed - whole time I owned the car I never noticed that one of the inner rear wheel arches was full of fibreglass!!! Nice bit is firstly most areas have been removed and secondly the ones that haven't I seem to have gained very easy access to make a few invisible repairs before the next stage.

I wondered why I hadn't seen this in a while Ian- its nice to see you didn't give up on it after crashing, I was thinking of it a few weeks ago on my first ever track day passenger ride which ended in the crash rail at corams at snetterton. keep it up!

Destroy to create. Excellent stuff, this is looking great! Hopefully see you this season! So far it's going in the right direction ...before adding less weight... I think you've already gone quite far with that one! Nope lots more metal to come out yet I wondered why I hadn't seen this in a while Ian- its nice to see you didn't give up on it after crashing, I was thinking of it a few weeks ago on my first ever track day passenger ride which ended in the crash rail at corams at snetterton. keep it up! Sorry to hear you had an off - hitting crash rail does a lot of damage unless it's a glancing blow I'm still cracking on with it but today I didn't achieve much - I emptied the commodore out and then measured and measured again until I was happy that my plans hold water - Bonnet release unfortunately has given up so I didn't quite work every thing out that I wanted too. Then I loaded all the stuff back in the Commodore for safe keeping and came home to measure what's left of the Monza and after further measurements with gewy over a coffee and a bacon sarnie we concluded I have two problem areas to worry about, this pleased me as just two was way less than I thought I'd have... I do however need to do some more cutting....

So critical dimensions on the Commodore Inside edge of A Pillar across the car from one side to the other 1390 mm Inside edge of the door shut closest to the opening end of the door to same place the other side 1390 mm Inside edge of the edge of the rear panel next to the wheel arch to same place the other side 1390 mm Inside the boot (inside edge of the wheel arch where it meets the body Any guesses........ Yep 1390 mm Did a load of height measurements from Sill top to check out roll cage clearances as well front cross bar on the cage I think is going to give me issues so may have to replace that with a straight bar

Bookmarked I'm not that accurate to be down to a mm It's gonna be a measure twice - make the odd template cut to that and then bridge the gap with a mig
