Enjoy, the Ace Cafe is a fair old run for me. Whats the occasion? Sounds like you've had plenty of fun with the cutting though.

It was originally going to be awards night then postponed and revised as a BLTN meet up post awards So I did skip a night in the garage but the Steak and Ale "pie" wend down a treat - especially when I didn't have to wait long for it (unlike EmDee & markbognor who watched me almost finish it before their breakfast arrived)

Excellent !! I`ll have to pop over and have a look one evening after work ? Keep up the good work fella Anytime CR500DomSo last night I was chatting to Colonelk and we were discussing timelines and Mark raised some good points in a counter to what I thought was a good plan In a nut shell I wanted to have the cutting of the Monza all done by end of Feb Start cutting/dismantling the Commodore and finish this in March Then spend sometime in early April (weather better) trying to mate the two and then finish rest of April welding the two together..... I have the GPOS (Lotus) on a three month holiday starting from beginning of Feb and ending on the first May and so I looked at might timeline and did a few fag box calcs I have 70 occasions between start and end of the window this equates to a possible 332 hours I've put in 42 hours and used 12% of my available window of time so far I think I need to crack on a bit...... Those that fell asleep can wake up now

Reading threads like this makes me wish I was nearer to East Angular.
Mr. Child - you are a mentalist of the highest order. Ordinarily I'd be begging for progress on the Lotus Carlton, but this has potential to be off the scale of awesomeness.
Checking daily for progress reports!

Until you showed me the pics at the Ace I'd somehow miss how crazy you're being, it's brilliant! Once thought about doing this with a Locost chassis, a big cage and my old Escort's body - and seeing how easy you're making this look, I'm starting to think I should have just done it! Looking forward to the next set of photos

Locust chassis and mk1 escort body sounds ace why has no one done it?

Would make an awesome road toy Jumping through hoops doesn't float my boat also I retained the plate from the Monza and sold it before declaring the car scrapped several years ago so I didn't have to worry about annual Sorns.... It's a bit of a Lazarus for both cars. I'd put the commodore on the road if plan B happens but it's a lot more work with a greater chance of getting I wrong.

If you buy a spares Monza and bosh the entire it it'd IVA pretty easily I'd imagine, as they were type approved.

OK I need to give some explaination I had cut away nearly all I thought I needed too - my original plan was to leave the original strengthening plates and cut away the A pillar and butt the Commodore shell up to it. But it would require some quick chopping as the Commodore shell went over and I found a bit of rot which made me reconsider I have some pictures squirreled away of Commodore inner wings Have a Monza inner wing picture care of PhoenixC"Inner wing reinforcement is actually quite good condition, but the steel has been ripped due to wing flex.... All taken from this thread retrorides.proboards.com/thread/10190/monza-resurrected-wwwooootttTrouble with my plan is that I'd have no room for adjustment on the shell front to rear and to centre the arches so I decided to rip it all out and then I've got some wiggle room I can then do what I did to previous Monza without a cage fitted and what I recommended to PhoenixC in the linked thread Plus without the strengthening plate access is so much easier and as the commo is slightly narrower it'll be easier this way!

neat option would be to remove your swan neck from the roll cage A pillar base plate up to strut top, instead run a straight shot from base plate, through bulkhead and inner wheel arch to the strut top. then a straight horizontal shot from strut top to the a pillar roll hoop where it turns up for the windscreen.
then the inner arch/engine bay quarter becomes cosmetic, or "as well as" depending what strength you add

Looking good fella, cage is providing all the structure you need really, cut it until the commodore shell drops over, then stitch it all back together would be my recommendation. You could always straightline the bars from the struts to the kink in the A-pillar of the cage too ?
