Pay attention man! :-) It's 7 engines, 11 gearboxes,12 parts cars and a pushbike at the moment :-) No wonder his drive is cluttered! But i'm guessing he sticks with his kubota 3 cylinder diesel idea.... without the joking serious great buildthread by the way. Big balls to cut up a good car just because you want to. All the luck

not enough yet haha
The Austin 1500 block went last week, the cammed and ported head that you put so much work into has gone too. Someone is coming to collect the rebuilt 1750, they are having the bike carbs and manifold with it too.
So then I will be pretty much committed!
I now have the mgf vcc engine with hydraulic clutch / gearbox sitting on a pallet - the vvc needs rebuilding on it though. Also have the rover 200 vi, runs spot on and using it as a daily at the moment - might use the engine from it if the vvc from the mgf engine cant easily be sorted.
I'm also still trying to sort out getting another spare vvc engine from a box shape rover 218, the seller has the complete car wiring loom all labelled up so I want it. I did take the loom out of the mgf but I wasn't overly careful and didn't label anything as is it was a right mission!
Now that my driveway is clear work can start on the Allegro, time to get the grinder out!
Picked up some new 240mm drilled black brake disks, ordered new wheel bearings and ball joints, will get new mgf bottom arms down the line. Looking at fuel pumps and surge tanks, looks fairly straight forward but trying to work out if I should get an alloy tank in the boot or keep the original, would be easy to make a firewall between the boot and cabin. Hoping to use an Acewell or Koso dash, with its own sensors for speed, water etc
Main task now is to get the inner wings and turrets all chopped and figure out mounting the TF frame. Hopefully we will make it so it bolts in, will make it much easier, will need lots of bracing work I think.
The mgf has given me brakes, a nice thin rad, gearbox, driveshafts, ecu with matching security fob etc

Excellent project. Out of interest, in my experience the edis you have is off the ohv fiesta/escort 11/1300's. I did some back to back testing with one of these and the later cvh esc out of mk3/mk5 escorts on a zetec (nearly 14 years ago now ouch). I believe the cvh one to been so, so much better as I reckoned the red edis thingy had an advance curve that was more pretty lame as it was designed to stop the ohv's from being revved. Anyway I always pass on this info when I can. Top project and if I was closer I'd volunteer to help fabricate it all for pennies. :-) Without an additional ECU to control it all EDIS units run at a fixed 10 deg BTDC ignition point. It's a kind of failsafe 'get you home' thing I've often thought about a sleeper Allegro. It'll be nice to see this shredding tyres at the lights!

If you're going to MGF hubs and 95.25 PCD you can go Dolomite Sprint alloys, or I have a pair of 6" and 7" Allycats if you're interested.

It's not an EDIS, It's an ESC unit.
Similar to an EDIS, but runs a pre set advance map, with a built in MAP sensor.

I like this project, I often fancied building a 2 door allegro, mainly because I remember seeing on a regular basis a Beige 2 Door with Escort Bubble arches and wolferace wheels, I think the car was something to do with ST and was always parked up at Brands Hatch, this was when the allegro was only just in production too. Stranegly, I Just spotted this on FB, 16v Allegro? LS1? Might be a V6 and BIG wheels......

I think that one is running a tvr chassis, v8 of sone sort, it looks sick from the back! I think that build got stuck because the chassis turned out to be from a nicked car or something?
Shame mine is 4 door, 2 door would be better but where to find a decent shell. I did see a 2 door same colour as mine was going up for auction last month, it had been off the road 10years though and needed a lot!
Just seen that Allegro on twitter, don't think it is the one with the tvr chassis now, it looks amazing though! Don't think I'm going that far but do think mine will have a cage and proper seats, had 80ish on a country road and you would not want to crash one!

Just been having a look at the v8 Allegro, it's a Corvette C4 with an Allegro body on, I say it doesn't count as it's still a Chevy, left hand drive too.
Looks so amazing though, those rear wheels are mega wide, will be looking to see what they do with the front grille, love the front spoiler but don't think I could pull it off with stockish arches, maybe a smaller version though. Ideas flooding in lol

That looks pretty cool, quite a contrast. That shape really works when you look at it. To think of all the Allegros (All agro's) that have slipped through our fingers......

Yeah something like that, need to get the subframe mounted first.
Be careful when topping up brake fluid, got this back to metal today.

I hope you manage to do this conversion as I reckon it'll be fantastic when finished. Not to mention all the people it'll surprise as you blast past them. lol. Great work, keep it up.

No going back now!
Still using the Tf front subframe, the towers actually fit directly into the Allegro hydragas turrets the car dimensions are that close. Had to cut the turrets out though as the Tf towers are just a tiny bit too big to fit inside, even with trimming the joins on them.
Looks like the Allegro steering rack can stay, just need to trim out the back of the subframe for the box to poke through. May have to trim out a tiny bit more of the car as the subframe needs to go back another half inch and the wheels will be pretty much center, also need to try and gain back as much as possible from the front. The manifold will be fine, alternator is going to take so cutting even with moving it back. The Allegro front vallance doesnt come down very far so the bottom of the subframe will be visable, chin spoiler maybe
Good job I have the mgf engine sitting in a rear frame, can chop and weld on the rear engine steady and see the exhaust route, looks good!

Gotta love Allegros. How can anyone not? Following this project with much interest. Of course I'm biased cos I had my first driving lesson in a near new 1500 automatic back in the '70s when I was aged about 12 and I've liked them ever since.
