MOT ran out on sept 13th, ooops, i've not driven it mind you i'd been busy with work and holiday. it passed yesterday with an advisory about oil leaks, thats good news to me as it means the gearbox still has some in it. also got a quiet word about the fuel cap seal, mine is some weird laminated cardboard which is losing its shape, kind of going cone shaped from the sheering force when its screwed on. when you google the part number all the hits seem to come back rubber, although i found a listing for genuine old stock on ebay which looks more like its thin plastic. i doubt new pattern versions are hard rubber/plastic, in-fact i doubt they are even fuel safe. might buy a sheet of cork and cut one myself.

last thursday (12th august) was my land rovers 40th birthday, 40 years from the build date according to BMIHT (its a paid service where they will look up details from original hand written factory ledgers for rover/morris/austin etc etc). i thought a fitting tribute to becoming "of historical interest" was to drive it back to the mother ship aka jaguar land rover solihull, and make my presence on factory grounds legit by doing an offroad experience in a new defender. so here it is at gate D2, probably the first time since 1981 (apologies to those who still think 1981 was 20 years ago) fluke photo opportunity with classic defender and a new 110. couple of pics from round the offroad course, the deep water is the famous jungle track which dates back to the 1940s and is situated next to building P38 (land rover nerds will know the building name became the internal model code for 2nd gen range rover) when i got back the events coordinator had put balloons on the series 3 and had a couple of bits of LR merchandised as a gift, which led to 15 minutes of fame on one of them social medias !

Nice day out and a nice touch from the centre to do the baloons etc. MOT free now as well. Did you think the Driving experience was worth it ? Might have to do that myself at some point, not sure if I would darken their doorstep with our old heap though ! Did the tour of the defender production line which was worth it so must be about time to seek permissions for another day out... James

James i would say yes to half day offroading. i went in 2016 for my own 40th birthday and did a factory tour (back then the disco4 was still in production, and the defender not !)

Would you be able to to the experience in your own vehicle, or it it purely for the demo vehicles?

Sometimes, others may not understand why you like a car so much. Sometimes, you may not even understand why you like a car so much. But none of that matters; all that matters is that you like the car, and having it makes you happy.
