Makes sense. Plus you'll have a solid construction, giving a deep bass note.
Remember helping a mate make door pods using dowel, old t shirts, glass & resin and acres of p38

Yeah they're tricky. Mate spent hours filling and smoothing with filler to get his right. Problem then was that to house his alpine speakers, they took half the footwell away.

I've put the woodwork on hold for a few weeks, a few family birthdays to plan and socialise for and I've been sorting things with the other Elgrand so no time to do anything with this one. I have been forced into swapping the wheels over due to a puncture though - these should be my winter wheels any way but I hadn't found time to swap over until I was forced into it. I've also got the MOT booked in 2 weeks time so there's a few maintenance things I need to do. Starting with the rear number plate lights, and the boot switch although that's not covered by the test, positioned on the rear valance they're very susceptible to the weather and were intermittent for a month or so before giving up completely in the last few weeks. I decided to move them both up onto the rear window, I'll actually fit the reg plate on with black Velcro so I can remove it at shows to make the rear end look cleaner. The light to be used, although I might swap bulb to an led equivalent at some point... Before... Wiper end cap flipped off, 10mm nut removed and wiper arm taken off... Grommet removed ... Inner trim panel removed to reveal access to two 10mm nuts which need to be removed - apart from these it's all poppers holding the spoiler on... Pushed up a bit... To reveal access to the wiper motor, two bolts on bottom edge and one above... With the cables for wiper disconnected I wanted to ensure the camera still works... Washer jet rotates 90 degrees clockwise and then pulls out... The cables were already in tailgate from when I routed them from their original location so I simply pulled them all back from the valance area and out through the OEM grommet for the camera / wiper... Light / switch cables identified and pulled through relevant holes - boot switch will go in washer jet hole... Spoiler popped back into position and inside nuts tightened back on... Light mounting plate fixed with security self-tappers in pre-drilled holes... Connected up and test ... That's as far as I got - I need a new switch for the boot release so I've just tucked cables away for now and I've ordered a new plate without holes in but I will move current one up in the mean time in case I get in trouble for it not being lit.

Parcel arrived from Japan Luxury seat covers by bros clazzio ... And a dealer brochure for my model Elgrand ... Excitement wains when I realise I've ordered the version for a different seat configuration (split middle bench rather than separate middle row) ... Quick consideration of modifying the cover to fit the seat changes into a decision to leave that seat out and board over the rails for shows / 95% of the time but I can bolt it in place in 20 minutes on the occasion I need to have 6 people in the bus. So disappointment has got my brain ticking for some more ideas / features to go in that area now.

Back to the reg plate swap... Velcro heavy duty coins fitted to a clean window ... Fitted... Rusty nuts stopped play (for now) in removing the old plate bracket ...

A bit of dremel work on the casing of a Maplin waterproof switch and on the washer jet hole itself and it was the perfect size to pop the switch into place so it's nice and tight... The switch and light will be a lot more durable up here and I think they look a bit more factory-fit. After squeezing my wrench behind the bumper I eventually worked the rusted bolts and nuts off the plate holder bracket to take it off the lower balance. Lights off... Lights on... And then when I'm at a show I can go plateless and more minimal in seconds ... I'll give it a wash when I've finished my other MOT prep items.

Last bit of MOT prep was sorting a side light bulb which has been gone for a few weeks to be honest, largely down to it being a massive hassle due to the lack of manoeuvrability of the bulb holder. This was made even worse by fitting CREE multi-LED bulbs which are a bit longer than the standard T10 bulb. So as part of the job I decided to extend the wiring loom by about 8" which brought it's own issues in trying to hold a short wire in a tight engine bay whilst trying to crimp a connector onto it with the other hand but after the hassle last time only to find I'd knocked the bulb loose whilst refitting it I decided the additional hassle this time was worth it for the fit-and-forget factor. Photos to tell the tale ...

So is that switch to open the back door or turn the numberplate light on?

So is that switch to open the back door or turn the numberplate light on? The switch opens the back door, connected to the original handle switch that used to be in the reg plate recess. The light is wired up to the original reg lights connectors.

Whilst my paint guy was painting the other van in mint I asked if he could spray the dash accents that I'd previously wrapped badly. Looking much better now... Although I'm going to sell the shifter stick on and get a shorter one that doesn't block the view of the screen.

I grabbed ten minutes here and there today and put the speedo surround / drivers vents back on and I also unboxed all the bros clazzio seat covers. I laid the passengers seats covers down on them to fit over the next few lunch breaks and fitted the driver's seat cover.. There a few creases in them from being in a box for 2 months on a ship and another month in the spare room which I'm hoping to encourage out with a hairdryer or steam from an iron. The only slight disappointment is they don't cover the whole back of the seat like the same brand of covers did in the cube but I think that's because of the plastic side trim panels on the seat. I'll probably cover the rear of the seats with matching black vinyl stuck on with fabric adhesive. Here's the seat back, the grey is actually charcoal but looks brighter with the flash on... Next weekend is a brake pad swap and an ElgrandOC meet and then I really need to get cracking with the MDF work on the audio build before the show season starts.
