I've been thinking about writing a little thread on toy cars for a little while. I have two little girls, who i have passed my car obsession onto, the eldest one is nearly ten, and the youngest on is nearly six. We go to car shows, cruises, autojumbles together and generally have a good time, (Mrs Pistonpopper comes too, she won't admit it, but she's into cars too!) Anyhoo, my girls have been collecting toy cars for a long looooong time, and both of them own in excess of 1000 matchbox sized cars each, and both have a huge Rhino tub to store them all in, honestly, they're too heavy for me to lift! On top of these Rhino tubs, they have these little boxes that house just fifteen cars, and in these boxes are their favourites. We also have a fair amount of track, which gets used to have races pretty often, the races usually take up a whole evening, usually when either i am out working, or Mrs Pistonpopper is out working, it keeps the girls entertained and it's a pretty good laugh to be fair. We often buy a joblot of cars from an autojumble or something, and the girls race their cars to win the 'new' cars, competition is fierce, and the girls can only use their own cars from their own boxes, and they have learnt that the fast cars are not always the prettiest, infact my eldest girl has a Mustang that has had to be banned from the competition becauase it goes like the Devil and my youngest daughter has got nothing that can beat it lol! Anyway, the point of this thread is to show you all my two little girls favourite cars, so without further ado, i give you my eldest daughters top 15 cars...
She found this one in the grass one day when we walked home from school, it was in this condition when she found it, she wont let me fix it, and she won't throw it away, for some reason she loves it! She's even got a couple of good ones, but they're slung in the tub somewhere!
She's into her Minis, and found this thing at a car boot sale.
I thnk this was the second car i ever bought her, she was about two years old at the time and went to sleep holding it in her hand, when she woke up in the morning it was still clenched tightly in her little fist!
Beetle convertible, i had one of these at the time, and when she saw this at an autojumble she had to have it.
Mrs Pistonpopper was driving a Thunderbird like this at the time, but it wasn't as pretty!
If you're into ZZ Top, or Boyd Coddington you'll know this is Cadzzilla, i think it's quite a rare Hotwheels casting. Not very good on the track.
'57 Chevy, she won this in one of our competition evenings, as soon as she saw it she said she needed to have it becuase the whole front opens!
A HotWheels Camaro that she dug up out of Grandmas back yard.
Corgi Batmobile, this was a fight to get, she found it at Beaulieu autojumble one year, i think she was four years old. Anyway she was looking at all the cars this guy had on his stall, and i was looking at something else, but Mrs Pistonpopper was with her. So she picks up the batmobile, which was at the time immaculate, and asked the stall holder how much. He snatched it out of her hand and put it back and told her it wasn't for sale to a child as it was a collectable! I was stood at the end of the stall quietly watching. and she picked it up again, and asked him how much. Again he took it off her. This went on three or four more times, until the stall holder actually put it up out of her reach and asked Mrs P. to leave. So i wandered over, picked up the Batmobile (without acknowleging Mrs P. or the girls) and picked up the Batmobile, gave it a quick look over and then asked the fella, how much? He said that'll be £10! I said £10!! I'll give you a fiver! We haggled for a bit (because thats the point of an autojumble isn't it?) And eventually settled on £7, which i thought was still too much, but i handed over the cash. I then handed it to my little girl infront of him, who said thanks Dad! I thought the stall holders head was going to explode! He went on a right rant about it being an adult collectable, and how i shouldn't give it to a child, he even tried giving me my money back!! I told him i didn't want my money back, and it's a childs toy, for a child, i had one when i was a kid, and now my little girl has one too! He still remembers me to this day, and even last year at Beaulieu he refused to sell me something lol!
Father Christmas bought her this one, she loves that it has an engine in the front, and an engine in the back!
It doesn't roll very well, but she loves the rader going round as it goes along... Why don't they still do stuff like this?
Dodge Dakota, it's pretty mullered, but i was driving one at the time, so she had to have it! No, this one doesn't roll either!
A red Trans Am, again i was driving one at the time so when she saw this at a car boot sale, it came home with her!
The 'Banned from competition Mustang' damn that thing is fast!
Also banned from competition because it has a pull back and go motor, pretty neat looking little Audi Quattro!
Now then, here's the six year olds favourite fifteen!
Found in a big box of cars at an autojumble last year, she wasn't going to have it, but it was spotless so i convinced her to have it. Also, it has two fans on the back that rotate as it's pushed along.
A Volvo 240 estate, i was driving one at the time, so she had it, much to Mrs Pistonpoppers disgust lol. It has a flake roof done with Mrs Pistonpoppers nail varnish she didn't approve of that either lol!
Opel Kadett, apparently its the wheels that do it for her on this lol.
Beach Buggy, this is my brothers doing, he's beach buggy mad, and if he see's one he usually buys it and gives it to one of my girls!
The Striped Tomato! This was a free one from an American car show we went to a couple of years ago, we watch a fair bit of Starsky and Hutch (amongst other programmes from america in the seventies and eighties in our house), and they seller said if she knew whose car it was, she could have it for free, she said, thats Dave Starskys car! He was gobsmacked, and handed it over!
Mummys Thunderbird! She bought this because her Mum was driving one at the time, then she asked me if i could paint it like Mummys? I said i could, but did she think that would please Mummy, she said no. She was right lol!
Daddys car! Still driving it! To be fair as rough as this looks, it's pretty damn quick on the track!
Dunno where this little Ferrari came from, but it's pretty old, and by all accounts the wheels are cool!
This came from Wheelsday last year, she had to have it because it had Dracula on the blister pack!
Corgi Mini Ha Ha, the colour is what makes this cool apparently!
Holden Ute, she has this in every colour they've made i think, she's got a real thing for pick up trucks!
This i believe is a Smart Crossblade, and it came out of a kinder egg.
In my opinion the prettiest car ever, Boyd Coddingtons Chezoom! I think this a a HotWheels casting, It's pretty detailed and i've not seen another so i'm guessing, quite rare? Like the Cadzzila model it has rubber tyres, and is not very good on the track!
Pink Jeep, it's the colour that makes this cool... Man-alive that thing is PINK!!
Daisys Jeep from the Dukes Of Hazzard... Other kids might want the General Lee, but not my little girls, she wants the Jeep!
And thats my Girls favourite fifteen cars from each of their collections, i think it's safe to say i've passed on the old car thing to them! Besides which, i kinda like looking at old toy cars, and even the new ones i find myself looking at when the wifes shopping in Asda. I must admit, i do buy the odd one for myself too, and i was going to put some of mine up, but i thought you might like to see some of my kids cars. Presumably most of you with kids share your car obsessions with them? I'm sure i'm not the only one here that has a small collection of toys cars, so what do you think, show me you collections of 1:64 scale toy cars!
