The lack of useable parts from so many engines seems to paint a woeful picture of their durability .... is that right ?! It can’t just be bad luck, surely !? Actually not. Apart from the one that had been run lean and detonated, all the rest would have continued to run. A rotary engine can be more shagged than a piston engine and still run well. The problem is putting new seals up against a worn housing, you cannot get the seals to bed in properly. Out of 8 housings there are three that I would consider using again. If it was just a drift or skid car , I would say only two housings out of the 8 are not worth the effort. With the rotors, five are useable, two have hammered the seals out due to detonation and running lean, and one has had water jacket seal failure and is rusted solid. Could probably get the seals out but not worth the effort.

Workshop renovation continues. Painting of floors and fitting of lights nearly complete. Moved the big 5axis cnc lathe yesterday. Pretty uneventful considering it weighs 7,5 tons. House Elf couldn’t believe it when I initially moved it away from the wall with no levers or winches 🤣🤣🤣. Much easier to push with the little forklift though once I could get in with it though 😊 Need to paint the walls where that was standing and second coat the floor. Then over the weekend move the small cnc lathe down that end. All ready for the cnc mill being delivered on Monday 😊

That little forklift thing was a real godsend. Best £250 I ever spent. 🤣🤣 All it needed was a resistor soldering back onto the board in the charger.

There’s something satisfying about cleaning up either old or dirty items so they look like new again

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

It will do 400mm x500mm x 600mm high I may require your expertise in that case. Providing the unit turns up and you're OK with my plans?

I know what you mean about working on dirty machines. Used to be regularly wiping mine down but then would go onto other machines and could barely see the controls for all the swarf on them. Usually dirty roughers it has to be said.

I love keeping my lathe clean. Doesn't make it any less noisy or more accurate but it makes it nicer to use. Plus it will last longer.

Very true. But it does also keep it more reliable because you find things like screw coming loose before they actually fall out . I must have tightened four of five screws yesterday. What I also found, which I wasn’t aware of,is this mill had the optional through the spindle coolant system fitted when new. A very useful option that would have stuck £5k on the original bill. It was a very nice surprise from an otherwise very monotonous day 🤣
