Well if you were to fab something retro looking from scratch, maybe try Kilo for the knobs. Where do you actually buy them from?? No idea I'm afraid. I just found some boxed NOS in amongst an old boy's house clearance and was a little surprised to find the company is still going. They do have a very good quality feel to them.

I’ve always been into car audio, and in my teens would often drive down the road, music blaring out. I was hardly one of the cool kids though, as my choice was a mixture of 80s rock and folk music from many eras. I've had an old Pioneer CD player (and the car) since the late 90s - the head unit was actually an 18th birthday present! A couple of years ago I wanted to upgrade things a little, as I found out that back in the early 2000s, Pioneer did an accessory which connected to the CD changer port, allowing a USB input. Full control from the head unit, and track titles too :-) Presumably discontinued as it didn't encourage people to upgrade their head units... I'd been looking for a while but any that did come up were used and over £100 :-( Until I found one BNIB for sale over the pond for $25 - better still it was Canadian dollars so only £12.50! It was on a community sell/swap webpage, so I applied to join. Unfortunately they wouldn't let 'outsiders' in, so I emailed one of the admins to explain the situation. She agreed to contact the seller, but sadly they didn't want the bother of packaging it, finding the cost to the UK etc. So I thought that was that. But the admin then offered to buy it and post it herself, and when I told her to add something on for the time and trouble, told me she didn't want any extra, just to pay the favour forwards! I’ve got some fill-in JBL speakers in the front, and rigidly mounted in the rear parcel shelf I have a pair of Eminence 289s. In the boot I constructed a box around a 12” McKenzie subwoofer, proudly proclaiming to be ‘Made in England’. Sadly it hadn’t lasted that well… The surround had completely rotted in 20 years! I found a company in Holland who listed a replacement surround with similar enough specs, so had a go at replacing it. Fiddly job, but works well now. I can get back to listening to the Levellers at full chat :-)

Sometimes, others may not understand why you like a car so much. Sometimes, you may not even understand why you like a car so much. But none of that matters; all that matters is that you like the car, and having it makes you happy.

I was looking for a Becker in the Porsche but they are still pretty expensive and the old Blaupunk's sound pretty bad , someone pointed me to the VDO/Continental branded stereo's , look pretty retro and have BT streaming and hands free , I chose the one pictured , tuner/bt/usb all in at £105 , sounds better than my old Alpine unit , plus with no cd drive the unit isnt deep. VDO are blue and Continental orange.. Nice find

Just bagged these beauties for a fiver they sound really nice too considering they were from 1983. Must have been fairly expensive back then. Will look the part in my 1986 camper Also bidding on some smaller ts x1s for the back hopefully won't go too pricey.

Not sure if you can make it out but the little roller on the side controls the angle of the tweeter. Works really well

Won the smaller ones on eBay for a tenner. Turned up still in the original box.

I've ammassed a fair few 70's - 90's Blaupunkt head units which I think look ace in the sort of cars I have. I took one out of my 924 and fitted a blanking plate as I just like hearing the sound of the bike carbs and exhaust. My beetle came with a blanking plate too so think that may be the same. Everyone in my family think I'm a bit weird.

I am planning to leave the original mono tuner only in place in my camper and fit one of the hidden Bluetooth amps to power the retro speakers. Tried living with the radio as it is but it's very limited, doesn't even have FM. The amp can be lost in the campers electrical box at the back and run of of the 12v leisure supply as and when needed, should work out well hopefully.

I've got an old late 60s Motorola in the dash (mostly to fill hole in the dash) and a Rexton 8 track underneath with a modern Sony DAB/bluetooth/ipod head unit hidden away. A pair of old speaker pods on the rear parcel shelf with the original 3W (three whole watts ) speakers swapped out for some 60W ones. Couple of small pod speakers mounted under the dash on the under dash shelf for some sounds in the front. Not the most exciting of setups but looks sort of period correct. I like the sound of the exhaust more anyway.

I love this thread is still going after starting it years ago. I keep seeing it pop up and thinkin oohh this is my kinda thread I've just put two of my old Cassette Decks on ebay. A very digital Rover or Austin Unipart one that we put in my Dads Spitfire (looked awful in that) and a 90s Goodmans one that i've never wired up due to having too many wires for me. I wish I could show you some cool new decks but in my Escort I have had a CD player (big hole now as the Earth wire started smolduring ) and the Capri has the Sony CD player in that used to be in the Escort. Really thinking of getting a nice cassette player like an Alpine in the Escort and getting a better Bluetooth player for when I need to listen to spotify.

Heres some of mine (including the two on ebay). I think there is a Ford 2000 cassette deck in the what box and elsewhere an 80s Ford medium wave radio and the cassette version.

Anything exciting in the Celestion box? I used to covet their car subwoofers!

I just had this turn up today to eventually go in my MGB Will be my first time dabbling in properly older car audio, it's a NOS item apparently and I did buy it mostly for the looks I'm hoping to wire in an aux in or bluetooth receiver possibly in line with the cassette deck so I can have some modern functionality still

I'm a bit partial to old Blaupunkts as they are what I grew up with. Not the best in terms of anything really, but the old ones are pretty decent. Got a Blaupunkt Paris RCM 104 in my Porsche. It's got a CD changer input where I've fitted a Bluetooth adapter. I've also got the original Bremen SQR45 sitting in the garage, but as the plugs in my car have been converted to newer ISO style I didn't bother to replace the plug and instead went with the slightly newer Paris RCM104.
