Great stuff! Did the brake van get a run out too? Sadly not this time. I think it is on the van train, but it could be used on the P'way train if needed. We have been discussing whether to paint a couple of Minerals in different colours - well there is the ICI blue, MOD Black as well as more bauxite. Perhaps a short rake of variety 16T wagons, as well as the lengthy train of grey ones?

We are back at work taking the rotten floor out of the "Black" wagon. A crowbar is useful Except when things need cutting! All done - now to clean up.

Great news from the GCR
"92214 to remain at the Great Central Railway!
We’re delighted to announce the successful outcome of negotiations enabling prized loco no 92214 to remain at its Great Central Railway home.
In mid-2022, the loco’s owner, indicated a wish to secure its longer term future. As a result, negotiations began with a view to 92214 staying at GCR. Chairman Richard Patching comments: “Negotiations can’t always be rapid and maintaining confidentiality for everyone is paramount; nevertheless, the discussions proved to be positive and cordial throughout, leading to a most successful outcome for all parties. Patience pays off and I’m sure all GCR supporters will welcome the result.”
The owner felt an important factor was that 92214 should remain at GCR where it will be well looked after and continue to play its part as a true main line loco on a double track railway.
The loco is an ex British Railways 9F 2-10-0 tender loco – a type designed in the 1950s specifically for hauling heavy freight trains, but also often used on passenger trains. Locos of this class were employed extensively on GCR until the mid-1960s which coincided with the line’s rundown/ closure by British Railways.
The acquisition has been achieved by the GCR’s supporting charity David Clarke Railway Trust becoming its owner, and financed with the help of a benefactor who wishes to remain anonymous".

Well that one is Black....but the image is picking up the green of the vegetation. Here is an even earlier version with a different 9F

Talking of Black, our latest wagon restoration now has a black inside and 10 sheets of steel ready for welding for the new floor.

Here is an even earlier version with a different 9F Ahh, the comment was going to be about the right livery Actually I rather like the green- but with the "Windcutters" it's got to be a black 'un. 92212 must be soon after they'd first arrived with you I guess?

Hi PHUQ I think 92212 was running with a photo charter around 1995/6. However I have just seen pictures of 92214 and it has been repainted in unlined black just in time for the Winter Gala so hopefully it will be pulling our "lengthy train" of Windcutter wagons. Also "Boscastle" is being moved...To Quorn where it arrived from Barry 50 years ago on Jan 22 1973. It will be good to see it back there, but this time without its boiler.

On my last visit we took off the two side doors so that we can replace the corroded hinge angle section. I was also told that my brakevan was outside at Rothley and had a leaky roof, so I scampered up on top to paint some brown bitumastic over the weather (west) half of the roof. It then started to rain and I ran out of bitcho!

It was good to be back at Quorn with Boscastle! And our Windcutter wagons were pulled by a nice variety of locomotives.

I had a very nice GCR Breakfast on the train yesterday - just a ride before most of the line closes for a month as two bridges are being replaced either side of Quorn station. There will still be trains (DMU) operating over the next six weekends....Leicester North to Rothley then up the branchline to Mountsorrel. So that will be a first - to ask for return tickets from Leicester North to Mountsorrel!

We have also been busy on the Black mineral wagon - replacing the complete support bracket on one side of the door and repairing three thin sections on the other side. There are still bit of welding left to do though.
