To true George. Well I had a spare few minutes so I thought that i would "Paint my Wagon!" I will be working my way along the rake painting just the sides that are seen from the passing trains - then I will do the ends and other sides.

Looking good, Phil.
As an alternative, just let the graffiti boys in. They'll do them for you.
In fact, how have you kept them out?

Thanks George, I did wonder about the graffiti boys, they have put their "Tags" on parts of the railway but mostly around Leicester and Loughborough - not much in the delights of rural Quorn.

Well when I got to Quorn today I found that three wagons have been split from the rake. So I set to with my trusty tin of BR grey and 4" paint brush!

Re the GCR bridge project there has been a lot of progress, the top layer of blocks have been positioned on the South abutment and a big crane is doing the same on the North abutment. Re-bars go in next and then concrete. I am given to understand that, in two weekends time, the 40 ton steel beams are due to be lifted in place on top of the abutments on Sat night, when there is a possession on the MML. The actual bridge beams are due to be on site around the end of Aug and another Sat night possession at the beginning of Sept will see them craned into place. Another Sat night possession will see the track bed beam installed later in the month.

The bridge site was quiet today as the concreting work on the abutments is now complete and they are awaiting the steel beams to top them off. On the North site there was a digger clearing a watercourse(?) and several pallets of blue facing bricks have now been delivered. The main bridge deck sections are due to arrive on site in a week or to and be lifted into place on a Saturday night.....

Again well done for putting the hours in to restore/paint these wagons. I also think the bridge re-instatement is a fantastic achievement for a preserved railway. Especially at a time when so many of these preserved railways are struggling to get the people (with the right skill sets) needed to run them. I've not been to the Central railway since Tornado made its appearance there a few years back now. Time for a visit for deffo.

The GC reunification is now truly "future - proofed". There were only a couple of workers on the North site and no sign of the decking sections - presumably they will only need a smaller crane to get them in position later this month? The "Gap Project" may well have a bit of a hiatus once the bridge is finished and blue bricks built round the abutments. The next priority for the GC must be getting the "Main Line" museum built at Leicester North as that will have lottery funding time constraints.

Oh I bought some more grey paint and so I went along to Quorn and the Windcutter trucks have moved again, but I was able to get to them and two more have been repainted. I also need to paint the white diagonal stripes, which shows which end of the wagon has the opening door.

Thanks overdrive. Some more grey painting done! Now I have to change colour!.... and paint the white diagonal stripes. For those observant people who are wondering about the yellow/black checkered board, it is the advanced warning board for the mail exchange apparatus - for use with the Travelling Post Office demonstration train.

Great work there Phil, they're looking good now. For those observant people who are wondering about the yellow/black checkered board, it is the advanced warning board for the mail exchange apparatus - for use with the Travelling Post Office demonstration train. The one with the side door on the carriage that scoops up the mail bag hanging from a gantry? I had one of them on my Hornby train set and, in later life, wondered if we could use a similar technology for driver changes instead of a Staff Halt. Funnily enough it never caught on!

Thanks George You are correct about the TPO - I was fortunate in having a ride on such a mail exchange run and, at about 50mph, the "Bang" when the mail pouches come on board was unforgettable.....So a "driver change" might be asking a bit much of the human frame!

Ah, but George's drivers would be smaller Filipinos - we all know that smaller mammals walk away from a sudden stop better than large mammals! Be an interesting recruitment criteria - "must be under 5 foot high and own a crash helmet"
