Can’t wait to see this on the move. I can’t help but be concerned about those tyres though... will you not have excessive flex in the sidewall? No harm in more wheel girth 👀 You got me with the peer pressure. I've had two new rims sent to be banded to 6.5j for the rear. That will also walk the tyre outwards by 10mm so I can take the spacers off the rear and have some more thread on the wheel nuts.. which will make me feel a little safer and be legal again for MSA things.. I was a bit worried. Unfortunately the fronts have to stay the same for the mean time as the rim edge is pretty much at the arch lip already.

Nice build 👍 I would never of given the BMW engine a first thought as a conversion Thanks man. I still wanted a flat twin as the original motor is a 602cc boxer. This just seemed to make sense... bonus is it's 12kgs heavier and twice the capacity.. and now just over 5 times the power.

Please tell us when you're going to rag this thing up a Devon hill, I'm often down Honiton way during hillclimb season. Will do Heath. Should've been at Wiscombe in a few weeks but I will only map green car a few days before and really need to do some decent road miles to see how it handles, especially when letting off the throttle in corners. I have to be off to work in Mexico on the Sunday as well sadly. Currently I am looking at: Manor Farm, Charmouth - 9th & 10th June Gurston Down, Salisbury - 17th June Tregrehen, St Austell - 23rd & 24th June Castle, Bodmin - 7th & 8th July Shelsley Walsh, RRG - 18th & 19th August Wiscombe Park, Devon - 1st September Shere, Surrey - 2nd September Gurston Down, Salisbury 9th September Watergate Bay, Newquay - 15th & 16th September

Have put a little ad in the pony express section...
I'm hiring and then driving up an empty beavertail car transporter from Exeter in Devon, to Watton in Norfolk to collect Green Car from Emerald ECUs on Tuesday 24th April, have a look if you need transport in that direction..

Of course they should What particularly impresses me is that Citroen had the forethought to build the gearbox strong enough that it doesn't just explode the first time the clutch is sidestepped...... and that the car still sounds much like a 2CV, if a little angrier than usual Nick

This is a slight recap to 18 months ago... Gear oil shouldn't be coming out of here... the thing with the Citroen box is that there is no input shaft seal, and there is an oil return scroll on the input shaft that at anything under 5000rpm drops the oil back into the box, but anything over tends to work its way out along the shaft and onto the clutch. So both of these things had to be remedied. IMG_3077 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr And whilst fine for road use, the open diff wasn't that useful for hillclimbs, spinning the inside wheel up on any hairpins. IMG_3260 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Yummy Quaife diff, although Quaife themselves are slight douchebags and have absolutely ZERO after sales customer support, they were really USELESS! I'm not going to use them again for any other project. IMG_3263 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr The downside of that Quaife diff and having stickier /bigger tyres is less slip on the wheels and that that energy when dropping the clutch at a start line is going to go somewhere.... and the first gear layshaft teeth is now the breaking point... IMG_3270 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr IMG_3265 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Gets a little hot looking at this, but no other probs thus far... IMG_3269 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr We'll see how it copes with 40-50bhp more.. but I very much doubt if it will last with any higher power. Hence the great want for a SADEV sequential box.

Everyone should learn to drive in underpowered cars - it teaches you that power isn't everything momentum is - if you touch the brakes or lift you've lost!! A lesson my mate Will learnt the hard way trying to keep up with a 60 bhp Polo on a country back road with lots of corners in a 240 bhp Carlton GSi3000 24V I didn't have and still haven't had the heart to tell him I wasn't even trying very hard (he often mentions it expecting me to say I dropped a 125 bhp 1.6 Gti engine in there and that was why - I hadn't it was just a bone stock 1.4 8V)

I think you learn a much better driving technique this way. Learn how to wring every last bit out of the machine and your driving rather than rely on power. Incidentally, you're over Norfolk way right? Are you near the Emerald Hq? Good pub recommendation or other cool stuff to check out?

I do vaguely remember your gearbox mods from before - but being a Triumph "small chassis" sufferer I'm used to gearboxes that readily self-destruct even with the bone stock power plant.....
Another 40 - 50bhp (and more significantly, additional torque) might be finding the limits. Cryo treatments and fancy lubes may help a bit...... No doubt you've thought of this!

Well, that's another two brand new Michelin pressed steel wheels chopped up straight out of the box.. 20180404_181502 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Banded by 2.5 inches this time. 20180404_181518 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr With the wider tyres there was too much tyre on the inside of the rim and it was rubbing against the inner arch, I made spacers but this left too little thread to be comfortable with for the wheel nuts to bind up on. So another inch on the outer face will allow the tyre to effectively walk across the rim by the amount I need for enough clearance. The wings won't fit on though.. but I have already made a set of foam core carbon spacers to can't the lower edge out. I just need to remake a bracket/stay for the rear of the wing.

Might the double gearbox/4x4 kit be an idea for this sort of hill climbing, if you´re really having trouble getting the power down?

Might the double gearbox/4x4 kit be an idea for this sort of hill climbing, if you´re really having trouble getting the power down? Hey Horrido, I've contemplated this before as well! And it would be an excellent project and I am sure a fun result, but my mind backs away from this with the thought of chopping the floorpan from how it is (and it's taken a long time to get it in a perfect shape) and the extra weight of the additional parts would handicap the power to weight greatly. I have also spent 16 years driving it in FWD configuration and know almost exactly how it will react to most situations, I fear that I would be starting from fresh if it were 4wd. I would like to build a 4x4 Louis Barbour version some day though!
