Superb stuff. Love this thread. What do your neighbours think of your hobby? I guess the nearest one must be quite understanding if he lets you drive over his land to get to your back yard (if I'm remembering right?) We've only been in this house 6 months, but I made sure I was friendly with the guy on the garage side straight away. There hasn't been anything at this house with a really loud engine. I always clean up and most of the work is done with the garage door closed. I try not to bother anyone. The guy on the garage side is 89yrs old, he's not too bothered by me.
I'm hoping to put a drive through garage door so that I can drive straight through to the back of the property and build a proper garage with a lift. I need to save up some cash or get a sponsor because that stuff is expensive.

Virtual beers for everyone!
This week is going to be slow for the build because my regular job is picking up the pace. I'll only get a couple hours before Friday if I'm lucky.
I'll try and do as much as I can this week, probably a few little jobs will get done, but the big stuff like the bed, will have to wait until the weekend. It's Very rewarding! My buddy stopped by today and said that it wasn't going to be much of an "off roader" because it sits so low to the ground. I replied that it'll be fun in the snow and the slippery mud or wet grass, so it'll be a laugh either way. Four wheel drifting in the grass is always fun!

thats a really cool build, channelled over that chassis. Only thing that would make it better would be if you were able to make use of the original pedal box and column, although I know with a modern full engine swap thats next to impossible, i'd also keep the original bench seat, but thats just me.
Amazing build, i'd love to do something similar myself, but i'd never luck out on having those mounting points match up I don't think!

it sits well on there, engine looks at home.
do you think you will change the wheels to more vintage style, to keep the "sleeper" look ?

Personally, I would throw a matte finish clear coat on it. I've watched Sin City Motors and he uses and gloss finish clear which I think detracts from the patina. But that's my opinion. Great progress. Loving watching this come together.

My son was helping me line up the panels and he asked "What's next on this thing?" I said I don't know and that I wasn't sure because this was as far as I thought about it. I figured if I could get this far, the rest would work itself out in the end. I'm not sure about the wheels, I might leave them on it, with changing to a slightly bigger, slightly more aggressive tread pattern. I still have to cut the wheel arches, the front wheels won't even turn the way they are. I might matte clear it, but again, budget and the lack of a spray booth, just not sure. I can't watch any of those American TV shows about cars anymore, they're all so partially scripted and largely fake, not to mention the characters have become like cartoons. I can't take them seriously. The original steering column wouldn't have worked, unless I went with a stand alone ECU for the engine and screw that- I'm not building any more wiring harnesses & fuse boxes from scratch, not worth my time to do it that way. I could have tricked the ECU into thinking all of the wires and switches were in the factory locations, but it simply was not worth the effort. It was the same story with the pedal box on the 53. The pedals came out of the floor on the old truck and that again, would have needed to be made somehow into a drive by wire system. Again, no way. Not worth it. The plan on this one is to make something cool, that is powerful and reasonably reliable, road worthy and above all, fun. Hidden in that last sentence are a couple disguised but very important facts. This needs to make a profit. This needs to be done faster than the last ones and it needs to be a better vehicle than the last one. It needs to appeal to a much broader audience. So far, I'm on pace to hit all of these marks. It's a cool build and I love the interest that this board provides, thanks guys! It keeps me motivated to press on with it so thanks for that. It would be cool if the next update saw it out of the garage with some body panels mounted. Cross your fingers for nice weather!

Love the work your doing on this truck, looks awesome! Cant help but think some wheels like this, rather than the more modern alloys would work well & help broaden it's appeal

Just found this thread, great stuff and I thought the Mazzer was awesome, but this is on another level. Have to admit to loving the cars they churn out on Sin City Motors, but the shiny patina does my head in! Their cars have rusted for the last 50 years, in a field normally, and now they'll probably sit in heated garages! They really don't need rust protection! Just my humble opinion. Oh, did I say this was awesome? Bookmarked obviously

Montana graffiti paint does a decent matte clear which isn't very shiny and is easy to apply and get good coverage. I know its not being blown on, but it is a good option.

Yeah, I was going to do old steel wheels with hubcaps or trim rings. Finding old steel wheels that fit this Dodge isn't that hard or expensive. It does look better, but those whitewall tires? Big bucks. Even the fake "Porto-Walls" are 65 per corner and that's on top of the rims and tires.
I'm doing one bonnet catch right now. It's about 6:45PM and I was able to put in a couple hours after work tonight. Hooray!! :

The all black blow over paint job with skeleton hands just might work out. I am seriously considering it. Possibly matte red, paint over everything. Anyway, I got home from work at 3PM and worked on it until 9PM. The bonnet is on, the front clip is supported. I still have to cut the wheel arches. No choice there, these wheels won't turn without ripping the wings off. It looks Friggin' cool. It's going to be mean looking. I think. Now, do I cut the wheel arches perfectly round, or follow the same shape as what's there?
