That binnacle cover is really smart, certainly doesn't look like something that's been knocked up in a day (or less?)
I think it looks smart enough that you could have painted or covered it in a matching red/white combo to the dash. Then again, you've got to bridge to the grey column cowls somehow...

gonna buck the trend here, and say that i probably wouldve gone down to the local craft depot and bought some red vinyl at 10 bucks a meter. still ten bucks more than zero, admittedly !

It would have been better red and cream color like the original dash, but this was free and it's done. It will all look just fine when it's assembled and running down the road. Within a week I should be able to get the truck turned around in the garage and start fabricating the shortened, channeled bed. I'm waiting on the new aluminum radiator and the noisy muffler to arrive. That will really start the ball rolling...

Muffler arrived, radiator next week. I finished the cab floor and started making the seat brackets. It's going to be cool, I'm stuck in for sure!

Here is a Video Update of the Build. I've been doing some serious hours in the garage and today it was nice enough outside to take it out and clean up the massive mess. I'll get back on it tomorrow but as for today, the garage is clean and the truck is back inside, awaiting the next move.
Have a look, check it out. Thanks everyone, now grab a beer and hit the play button!

Because I want this vehicle to be a "Better car" than the Maserati thing, I didn't cover up or remove the slots in the steel dashboard when making the binnacle, that channel air from the defroster/heater casing. When I took the truck apart, I kept the 1953 Heater motor & scroll fan. It also had a heater core (heater matrix) in it that seemed to not be leaking. I thought "I might need that". Well, I want heat and defrost in this one, so I took it out of the pile and checked it out: The 6 volt motor WORKS when I give it 12v, so I'm using this thing. I'm sure I'll need to find some transformer or some other little bit & bobs that will make it 6V again, so it doesn't melt itself, but it spins fast, moves a lot of air and is quiet. With the digital outside temp, average MPG display, the distance until empty display and the compass features of the headliner computer- now this will have heat & defrost too. I guess it will be a little better vehicle than the Mazerusty. The Cruise control function works, the moveable driver pedals, the lights, the OBDII system, the automatic computer controlled AWD function, the lock out 4x4 (well, it locks it into 4x4 full time high or low) the only thing this won't have is aircon, but the compressor is on the motor and I have the condenser. It just needs custom lines and a receiver drier. I kept the stock controls for the aircon, but That is for the next owner if they want AC. The cab is mounted on factory rubber body mounts, so it should ride fairly well. The bed will also be on factory rubber body mounts. I'm looking for a set of cool non Chevy vintage tail lights to complete the rear of the vehicle. If anyone sees any cool tail lights that aren't a million dollars, let me know. THANKS!

Take a look at classic vw parts suppliers, 12v-6v conversations are quite common, with adapters for making motors work properly.

I have a set of London Black Cab, taxi lights on my teardrop trailer. Not sure if they will be too smart or sexy for your beast. Guess yours need to be all red, not yellow/Amber.

Yeah, our rears are all red. Ambers are for the front over here. I could probably get away with it but I still have many days work ahead on the thing.
My radiator will be in this week and I can finish off the front grill area and start on the wings. Then it's on to the bed. I can't wait to drive this on the street. People are going to stare big time!

I hate to break it to you... but someone spelt litre wrong on your badges... /s Hahaha! Yeah, I know- they spell Litre wrong, tyres is tires, the off side and near side literally confuses us- don't even get me started on Aloominum...
I put the steering wheel on the wrong side of the truck and a traffic circle is hazardous to the UK citizens if an American is driving on one!
A hood is worn on the head and a bonnet is on a car, but over here, it's totally opposite. I know what happened-
When us Yanks were crossing the pond, half of our grammar skills and common sense was lost at sea!
Meanwhile, I'm just a petrolhead that loves a few pints!
Carry on chaps!

Meanwhile, I'm sitting down here being amused at the lot of you! At least most of the people on this forum spell things properly.

Well said that man, My grandad was in the airforce and worked along the USA during WW2, He held your guys with the greatest respect and regarded everyone of you as brothers, He also used to say there is no sutch thing as an American.. You can only be like an American its impossible to be 100% American, He said this was a compliment. As Forest Gump said, I don't know much about that but what I do know is I'm liking this build very very much and the vids are also very good, Keep it up man!!!
