Well, how difficult would it be to put a couple into a container, ship it out to Malta, get hooky paperwork for them out there, perhaps a basic repaint etc etc then ship them back to the UK to be sold to people with way more money than common sense. It would probably cost in. The Anglia and Thames is a possible, we all know where the Cortinas have really gone though. There are rumours flying about & speculation that classics maybe heading out to Africa as they love easy to work on cars out there & classics make the ideal vehicle for their needs. Been speculated to me from 3 different sources that this might be the case. There is a consignment of Land Rovers apparently heading back to the UK that were discovered in Africa having been stolen in Leicestershire a few years ago. I wouldn't even try to dispute this! Have you got any sources though? We can try to push this issue as far in the media's face as possible if we can find a link. Also here's the Canterbury Times article with the appeal to find the Anglia. www.canterburytimes.co.uk/Beautiful-classic-car-stolen-84-year-old/story-28637660-detail/story.html

The info came from a writer at a classic car paper, someone who had a mk1 Escort stolen a few years ago & the ex wife of the owner of the red Mk5 stolen from Chatham whose daughter is in contact with someone at the National car crime unit

Plenty goes through Tilbury. I sold an MOT failure Hyundai last year (via Ebay) and the flatbed driver that collected it on behalf of the buyer said he was very busy moving cars that way. Mine was legitimately shipped to Africa.
