A month after selling my mk2 Granada and saying to myself I am done with old car's I bought this,(Decemder2014) progress has been a bit slow due the health problems but thought I would start this thread to show my progress so far, the drive home was fun as the heater and the headlights were not working to well

Got to love a 3 door Sierra. Thundersaloon or standard, either way it'll look good. One of my all time favourite cars....

That looks great, whatever you do, please don't do a Cosworth rep! Looks great with the cossie wheels!! One of my favorite, non cosworth 3 doors, albeit a mk2.

Yep not going down the cosworth rep route, its doesn't have the power for that yet, First job was to take it on a good drive to see work needed doing first, result was everything this car needs a lot of love. The first job was to fit a new radiator and while I was at it give it a oil change, good job I did as this is what the filter looked like. I have since changed the oil another two times. Also had a play with some wheels as the tyres on the XR alloys were not to good and I had to keep it rolling Nope Just to keep it moving Until I got these think you can guess what I ended up at

Awesome love this era of fords! Going to continue playing with my xr2i tomorrow.
Love sierras though my dad had a basic lax in the 90's always thought it looked great though.

Great looking car buddy! I was a strange little boy so my mum says, when these were common old hacks (early 90's...) all the other boys ny age (4) wanted a ferrari, but I just obsessed about a red sierra! Loving the multi spoke wheel btw (dunno actual name!) Keep it up!

What coilovers did you use? A mate tried a set of focus coilovers and found there wasnt enough thread on the top, so maybe some brands are better to use than others?

Next was to sort out the engine. First job was to get the carb cleaned out set up and a new K+n filter and fit a new cambelt and the timing was miles out after 7-8 months of trouble free motoring it was running a bit rough, so treated it to new plugs, leads, distributor cap and rotor arm, and it's running spot on again, Now I thought it was about time I tidy up the engine, I decided to start with the rocker cover as the gaskit was leaking a bit of oil and cam belt cover, stripped them back to bear metal and painted in BMW cosmos metallic black

With the rocker cover re fitted it was time to clean and degrease the engine, I also removed the bulkhead cover good job I did as it was filled up with a few inches of mud and leaves, unfortunately I have no pictures of how bad it was, Lucky there was no rust in the bulkhead, but the cover was not so lucky with my seconded hand 421 exhaust manifold I painted up at the same time that I will get around to fitting one day after re fitting painting and detailing some other bits this is the result Before After

Great work there - those pintos are a great engine and respond very well to a good service. Looks great now as well. Looking forward to seeing this progress ;-)
