Last week I found an old Sierra in need of a home. It was in a bit of a state but I liked it so gave it a home. It's a 1990 1.8LX Auto, I think it may have been used as a kennel, because the interior had more Jack Russell Fur than most Jack Russells have. I used it for a few days and went to Race Retro in it. Drives arrow straight with no knocks, really nice quiet comfy cruiser. The interior really was grim, but several bails of fur have been removed, more work required but I need to remove the entire interior and I didnt have time for that today. The paint was awful, matt doom blue. I clayed it, cut it, polished and waxed it, and it now looks like a different car. Here it is before... And only got 1 after shot because of the camera battery...

I have a few more things I want to do, I have got some 7 spoke Ford alloys on their way to me so will have to repaint them and get some decent rubber. The discs are warped so a brake refurb is on the to list.
It really needs to be a bit lower, not sure if I should go with just springs or get some coilovers. Would coilovers for a 2wd Cosworth fit on these or are they a lot different?

I will get more pictures as it progresses. The engine will remain standard for now. It is nice and reliable and has no knocks or rattles. I don't need power I already have quick cars. This makes a nice comfortable cruiser that is very relaxing to drive. My mountain bike is now on the roof and the car is loaded with kit and will (hopefully)do the 250 mile round trip to the Peak District tomorrow for an event.

No rattles, reliable and comfortable sounds a winning formula there :-)

Nice car Yes 2wd cosworth coilovers fit, you have to enlarge the bottom shocker bolt hole on the rear arms as the cosworths use a bigger diameter bolt

The previous (2nd) owner had it for 15 years! I don't think i could get rid of a car after all that time. He traded it in on a Kia!

So it seems my head gasket is no longer gasketing.
O well, I almost had some spare time coming up so that's sorted now. Time to get some bits n bobs together. I have a spare cylinder head so I can get everything ready and before I strip the car so it doesn't need to be of the road for long. Updates and photos soon.
I never worked on a CVH before. It looks very easy to work on but any idiosyncrasies I need to be aware of???

A nice easy thing to work on, take the extra time to fit some new stem seals whilst you have the head off

Sierra people, another question! I was in the garage today, had a look at my new wheels (7 spoke Softlines) The wheel bolt holes look really big. Now my Sierra has steel wheels so was wondering if I need special bolts to suit these wheels or any alloy wheel bolts from a higher spec Sierra will do?

They use nuts not bolts if they are factory alloys then just grab any ford alloy wheel nut, mondeos are usually a good supply doner as they have extra nuts to keeps as spare (5 stud) or later focuses, but any ford car nut will do, they are all the same just differ in looks from year to year

I got a spare head and gave it a freshen up with new valve stem seals and a proper strip/clean up. Glad I did it this way as the original head was a crusty mess.
Of course, while hear I also replaced the belts, water pump and thermostat and gave the car a full service. (I forgot to get cap and arm so they are still to be done)Also flushed out the heater matrix. For some reason I felt the need to repaint the manifold heat shield while it was off, and i have the correct Ford bolts en route to make it look just right. She now starts and runs beautifully.
