As usual with older vehicle electrics, just look for corrosion on the terminals/contacts of anything related to the flasher circuit - trace the wires by following the path of the loom, which may lead you to the relevant relay.

If in doubt about the relay, try swapping it for another - many automotive relays are standardized parts used across many different makes/models.

Clean any dodgy looking contacts with fine emery paper/fine file, and/or contact cleaner spray available at the likes of Maplin/Halfords, etc.

You may also need to slightly bend the contacts in the bulb holders to make good contact with the bulbs, as they tend to go a bit sloppy after a while.

And best to replace any tired looking bulbs with darkened glass, which will probably be on the verge of blowing.

Thanks. I did take them apart. Two bulbs had to be smashed so I could grab the metal with pliers to get them out...so fairly corroded. Gave them a clean up and sand down and replaced both flasher and side light bulbs.
I also then traced the loom back to the first earthing point I could find and gave all parts, including the bodywork, a good clean back. Seems to have made a difference. The right side is still a slower flash than the left but there is very little change (that I can detect) when I depress the accelerator, and it now doesn't stop when the brake is on.

Ref centre caps...try the lids from paint aerosols, pushed through from the back, or put a set of 13" steelies, and fit these.............

Well, absolutely nothing to report other than I went away to work for five weeks leaving the Datsun parked outside my house and when I got back the other day it fired straight up. Well chuffed with that.

So a chap came down from Dudley today, had a look, declared it awesome and paid for it. He came from Kenya with his own Datsun which he gave to his son and the estate will be for him. Sad day but it will be looked after and more importantly used...and I have funds to head towards that camper van I clearly need in my life again.
