Not saying this will work but it may help
Some time ago i created a post in the General board about blanking number plates on car forums and at shows but there was mixed opinions both neg and positive This was to stop people getting your address, most people cant but some can
The other thing that dose work because its happened to me a a number of times, when going home with your car try to check if your being followed, this is not always easy because sometimes the scum bags use friends or other team members One night i always had one of two cars some distances behind me that just didn't feel right so i palled over and so did they, i went round a round a bout twice and so did they, i then stopped in a garage and a different car pulled up down the road! that moved off when i left the garage. Eventually i lost them and that was that. the next time it was only one car
Its up to you what you do but just wanted to make people aware if not already

Hi, it's a shame we have to be like this but it pays to be vigilant. There're counter surveillance techniques to try some perfectly legal some not so much. Four right turns or suddenly doing a 'U' turn will make them show out. Losing them in an area you know but not too close to home.

Hi Colin,
Yes it is a shame but its unfortunate the way things are going and only seems to be getting worse! Thats another good idea, often if i suspect something wrong i will drive far away from home as possible then do some of the above. I hope by posting this will help someone, i really do

I think we all take extended measures to look after our pride and joy, but sad to say if somebody wants what you have they will go to extremes to take it no matter how diligent one can be.
I had a MK7 Golf R from new in 2014 with a tracker and it vanished without a trace from my drive, I live in a small village with no through traffic on my road!
It is a symptom of the times we live in I'm afraid and a pure lack of respect for other peoples property.

Yes I'm sure we do but some people i talk to this about say I'm too paranoid but i disagree just trying to do what i can to reduce it, one morning i came out to the car and some scumbag had been into it over night and taken my radio and did a fair amount of damage in the process.
I now have a pedal lock fitted in a locked and alarmed garages but as you say you can only do so much.
I take it you never see your golf again?

Completely agree about the vigilance, i noticed a blue van following me from near my work the other night matched me turn for turn, I took it onto an estate where did a series of random turns then I noticed it turned into a road and parked up on a driveway, I drove past the road 5 mins later and no one was in the van, it could have been pure coincidence that it was following me but at least I have a lead on it now
Another way to help reduce the risk is not putting a picture of your car outside your house online making your location easily identifiable, spotted/abandoned threads are bad for other people unknowingly doing this especially when they take pictures of cars in driveways

Editing the exif data if you are using a phone so it doesn't contain gps co ordinates is a good idea too.

One of my cars does not lock. I had to leave it unattended in an airport carpark for an extended period once so I just took the dizzy rotor out.

Re covering your reg number.... A friend has an old car that was spotted whilst out and about. Someone had noted down the reg number and then identified the mot station where it was tested. They then visited the mot place and made enquirers about the car to eventually track down my friend and offered to buy the car (luckily not Nick it). If they want it, they'll find it. It's easier not to give them assistance IMHO. That's why I don't put any personal info or reg numbers on web sites etc

If it can be fixed with a hammer, then it must be an electrical fault

That just goes to show what people will do to find a car! I never used to register my details with a mot canter because of this, even used to tax it at a post office miles away from where it was kept, Before I sold it, it was registered and insured over 100 miles away and never posted my plates online
Luckily I now have a nothing special daily to run around in until i get another toy in the new year

I know this has been talked about before and its a shame to try and push for but thieves also use these websites to find out where cars are registered. Not putting a downer on it just being honest.
I would personally like to see Admin put a rule that all photos of cars posted on here should have the plates blanked in paint / Photoshop ect. what do you think?

Shouldn't make it a rule but members are always free to do as you suggest if they are paranoid or live in a dodgy country. Quite glad I live in New Zealand not Britain if it is really as bad there as I am led to believe.

Hi, You can register a vehicle where ever you want, they just want a name and address of some one who will take responsibility for the vehicle. Some fleet operations have vehicles registered at their head office but operate out of individual depots. As far as insurance goes it could be a bit tricky because they assess risk on location amongst other criteria and could refuse cover in the event of a claim if they consider it false information.
