Spotted one of my cars a couple of months ago driving past me in town with someone i didn't know driving it- problem was it was meant to be in another city 200 odd k's away. Daughter got sprung loaning the Carib to some mates, lol.
Many moons ago had a early moggy van that went walkabout. Parked it @ midnight Saturday, discovered it missing @ 10ish Sunday morning, cops rung on Monday morning having found it parked in the mall, nothing missing out of it either, found out through the grapevine that some lowlifes couldn't be bothered walking across town to the next party & hotwired it to get there quicker then left it in the mall carpark afterwards.

A friends Laser was taken in Auckland then found when it was towed from a few streets away. Absolutely no damage everything still there, we guessed someone had jumped in thinking it was theirs and driven a few streets before realising....

From the posts on this bit of the forum the best advice would be to not own a Ford, seem to be the classic of choice to be nicked.

The Millenium Volcon"Get yourself a Volvo if that's what you really want, you might be dead next year. In the meantime, you could be going sideways in a gigantic land barge."

best way we ever found in the garage is a shackle point in the concrete and a motor cycle chain around the axle or some strong point, I have even used a big chain down a drain in the street to the axle.

How is the situation looking with this sort of thing? I have a Volvo 480ES and an Audi 80 B2, both of which I try to use regularly. I have written several articles on the Volvo so that is known on the net, and the Audi is also known on the web since before I owned it. How big is the risk for these cars? I am paranoid at the best of times hence Fords are pretty much dead to me now (shame as I do like a Sierra) and what do you recommend I do to protect them, I was already thinking of getting trackers assigned...

A well secured garage is probably still the best option when at home, An immobiliser only really works on a modern car and will deter some but others just use a trailer, I think the best option is a well hidden tracker, apparently many thieves will now dump a stolen car in a random street for a few days to see if anyone turns up.
Unfortunately if they are really determined they will take just about anything so the most important thing it to make sure it's properly insured.
