I remember back in the early to mid 90s, the local taxi firms had a few of these Montego Diesel Estates. They used to be everywhere, and now it's such a rarity to see one, especially one with MOT and in use!
Apparently the RAF had a bit of a thing for them. It was never a terrible car but by the end of the run it had purportedly evolved into quite a good car. This example is a late one. A friend of mine had one and tried to run it into the ground - it just wouldn't die!
Damnit. Kinda. I had a bit of a soul search and decided what I wanted from a car was something to mess with in the garage, something to build some skills but not too big a challenge. I need a light, cheap, easy project, not something rare that I'd be scared to break. So I went onto Car and Classic and found another hens tooth car that will fit in my garage, but is on the outer edges of the budget, and has potential (in all possible uses of that word). www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1250612
Yup, it's a genuine UK RHD Y10 Turbo. When new it had all of 85bhp from the 1.0 turbo engine! Just about beats the 74bhp from the Innocenti, but probably a little heavier and a tiny bit more civilised. Plus epic turbo lag, obviously. Yet more want!
