Sam - Needless to say I have access to a very good chromer - just has good on price too - he's in the North but I will be shipping a load to him in the next month or so - lead times / turnaround is 3 months + Sounds like a potential plan, will just need to work out logistics to get it to you, see what happens over the next couple of weeks I guess.

" Rather than sit about twiddling your thumbs at a loss of where to start today, why don't you go sort the car bits in the loft which you've been saying you need to do for ages..." " Ummm not a job I'd planned on doing today, but okay then" Ventures upstairs and opens loft... " Good grief, I'd forgotten about all this..." and that was how my Good Friday started... Several hours of muttering and exclamations soon followed... ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Seems there are quite a lot of bits from two cars in my loft, one Toyota and one MG based, the latter was the one I was interested in and boy did I find a few forgotten bits ![](http://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/samta22/7a8251dd562e.jpg) Simple speaker amp I'd built to sit in the car ![](http://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/samta22/467c213ec592.jpg) Quite a lot of glass ![](http://img.retro-rides.org/i/v/samta22/5838e2db9c59.jpg) Carbs and filters as well as the odd amusing find and rather a few old work shirts protecting a parts need some tlc tips from petervdv I think Anyone for a unwrapped brand new loom... shameful I know, but previous best laid plans and all that Then found one of the boxes I was after Hoard of treasures complete, it was then a job of filling up the living room ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) it was at this point I think a certain person wished she hadn't said anything ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) One pedal box sir?... no I think I need two for some reason (a third if you count the most recently removed one) Also dug out the refurbished heater box I'd already completed many years back (must confess I'd completely forgotten about this!) I then set to work with some more chrome that needing adding to the pile already accumulated More delights await tomorrow...

You could prepare a batch for the galvanising compagny. I know you can buy all bits for the MG but its getting pretty expensive and there are a lot of small items that are a tiny bit different to the originals and do not fit well. You could combine it with the Celica parts. Advice is to document it well otherwise it will take a lot of time afterwards. I pay 60 to 75 Euro for a big box with screws, nuts rings and brackets. Keep up the good work. It will be both nice cars

Wiring loom you say... I was half planning on getting rid of the old loom in mine at some point It's funny that you're sorting out your MG parts, I've been doing a similar thing over the past few days, theres so many bits I'd forgotten I had. I had two sets of front crossmember polybushes for a start!

I've still got a fair bit to do still on that as well, plus as I can't really get to it in the current situation, there's no major rush. MG parts, particularly the chrome window surrounds and guttering as indeed in short supply, reading up last night it appears all the usual outlets no longer stock such items. Will be liberating mine from the lockup soon for cleaning and inspection, depending on what I find they may get added to the chroming pile.

I had two sets of front crossmember polybushes for a start! Yes a brand new loom for my '69 car, which one day I will get to as I'd like to get it done at some stage and exactly as standard... probably be in retirement given the list of projects I have already I think I got the loom at Stoneleigh a few years back, VAT free from MOSS so worth the trip for that saving alone. Parts sorting is the perfect job for the current situation, it's also helping me get my head round a few things as this build isn't going to be an exact replication of how the car was in any sense, so finding the odd parts that I'm going to be using from my earlier spares has proved very handy, including all the little projects I'd already done - the heater being one. I'd also converted a standard-looking manual pump washer to house a small electrical switch meaning I could have nozzles that actually put water on the windscreen with minimal effort ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Seeing as yesterday was a bank hols and everyone seemed to be quietly going about their business, the loft was the perfect place to potter away. However today I was allowed back in to the garden and on venturing out was met with the sound of chop saws, hedgecutters, planers, and in some cases just kids running about screaming... or the parents screaming at the kids... anyway I decided the only way to get through it was to add my own instrumentation to the orchestra of activity ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Brake backplate cleaning it was then... Now I didn't hold out much hope for these as they were rough as you like, however seeing as replacements are currently unavailable, and they are usually nigh on ÂŁ100 each when they are, I decided to give them a chance so while pitted in places, remarkably they didn't come up too badly. Out with the usual hydrate 80 treatment on those then... and while that was drying I turned my attention back to the last piece on the axle that was untouched... that backplate Bit frustrating, but due to the gears being done when heathrow transmissions were mid-move to new premises, it never quite got the tlc it deserved, so although it meant scrapping the gasket it wasn't going to stay untouched The equivalent to one of those bits of 'woz ere' graffiti was found inside ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Date with the wire wheel arranged and it was added to the pile of parts for treatment, along with a few Austin parts that madam somehow managed to sneak in things are coming up nicely More later

A large ratio of polystyrene to a small part petrol/diesel (can't remember which, but possibly both) makes as close to napalm as you can make without looking suspicious at the hardware store. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Good for burning underbrush back.

Have you got something you would like to tell us about those bushfires then? đ¤Łđ¤Ł Actually the polystyrene petrol thing is the basis of a plant that I think itâs Sony use for recycling all their polystyrene packaging. I have very painful memories of polystyrene and petrol as a kid. Must rank as one of the stupidest things I ever did. Broke a polystyrene surfboard by jumping on it in the swimming pool. Got told to throw it away. School holidays. Mom nips out to the shops. Get told to clean up the mess. Spy the petrol container as the Gardenboy was cutting the three acres of grass( good old house in the colonies , complete with slavesđ¤Ł). Poured petrol on the board. Went all gooey over the paving next to the pool. Decided to set fire to it. Bigger fire than expected. Darwin Award moment when I decide to stamp out the fire, totally forgetting I had no shoes on. Molten plastic to foot. Jumped in pool to cool newly formed plastic shoe around foot, down. Had to peel it off. One blister from my toes right to my heel. Had to pop it so mom didnât see it. She never found out. Just as well I had a high threshold for pain đđđ

đłđłđł yeah that's got to have smarted a little. If anyone wants to follow suit and play with polystyrene, I've a shedload here now... Came with some of these And the smallest box I've had from them so far... think I've nearly completed the Frontline Russian doll box collection đ¤Łđ¤Ł

You were however spot on with the first guess of an alloy radiator, albeit that wasn't what was in the small frontline box đ It also came with an aforementioned kit that I'm going to assemble over the next day or so now that weatherman Bravo has been proved annoyingky correct (again).

Some more steady progress sorting bits for the MG. With the weather taking a cooler turn, the axle was relocated to elsewhere in the house for SWMBO to trip over and the utility became the workshop once more. As I'm intending to have hybrid internals on a few things (more will become clear in time), I wanted to see what the compatibility was like with the steering shafts, so time to dig out the relevant bits '75 Steering wheel/column was located Cowling removed and after a spot of persuasion, the wheel soon came off Time for a quick comparison Hmm, shaft and splines on the older wheel look decidedly larger on the older wheel, a fact soon confirmed when placing it over the column That's not going to work then... I have an idea of what I'm going to do instead but some more research is needed first, so onto another box... however not before I had to vacate the utility and move to the dining room table, the reason why... well you'll see in a bit... So on to the table and out with the headlights, in particular separating of the sealed beam lamps from the retaining rings and bowls some of which have seen better days I obviously must've known this may be the case as I then found some more and then even more with another two bowls... ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) More chromework dismantled ready for adding to the pile Next job... pedal boxes... it appears I have a few in various states of repair all have differing reservoirs too depending on the year of the car... I have several of the same type however ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) All have been added to the assessment/cleaning/rejuvenation pile It was then on with a distinctly cleaner job... Before I was distracted by someone interrupting me with something of great importance (it needed to breath in the warmth of the sunlight apparently) So that put pay to that little kit build... another time it is then. Oh and the reason why I was ejected from the utility? Her ladyship set up her cleaning and chrome polishing shop for Austin and MG spares damn fine stuff she turns out too - few bits of mine that got the treatment have been carefully wrapped and stored safely. Beats it being full of horse paraphenalia ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) More soon!
