rebuilt engine ..............honed ,replaced rings and big n main bearings. vid made a couple of weeks before assembly. kind of wish id kept it now. itd have already been in the damn car all be it minus the inlet and few other bits.

thanks all, its very much a case of using whatever we both think will look the best instead of just adding the standard parts back on. auto jumbles are goldmines of "stuff" and as I have to fund this build, its a great way to buy and sell stuff onwards to raise cash for the stuff we want to use. ive sold pretty much all the Granada parts I had kept stashed for my own car to get us this far.being an opportunist helps too,ive never left a dumped mower on the kurb and ive flipped everything from car parts through furniture right through to an old fireplace surround.i drag it home,refurb-repaint-repair it and sell it on. got this far doing just that so we're not doing too bad. the interior will be a complete contrast to the ratty outer bodywork,i want it to be a very nice place to be inside. I have an 80-90's alpine head unit in the loft somewhere and recently bought some old audioline speakers for it too. the rear lamps are repro type ones but i'll de chrome them to suit the car. a bottom hinged boot lid is on the cards with a pair of knarly chains to support it when open.may even end up with a bottle opener on a panel somewhere too and maybe some welding wire stitching threaded through the body panels as well. it wont be a rocket but it should end up being a really cool car to drive.

took a gamble on a real cheap rear seat from a morris minor. the back panel almost fits and will just need minor fetting. the lower base section needs reshaping to fit the cabin but i'll look on youtube later and see if its doable by me. cost of seat....£10 . too cheap to not take a chance. personally I think the rear section looks very in keeping with the cars styling,just hope I can modify the base to finish it off nicely. if anyone has reshaped a seat base and knows how its done, please feel free to post links or explain.

two sore as hell hands worth of fingers and ive removed a spring from each side of the base. ive reshaped the steel top and bottom seat framework and folded upwards and downwards so that the seat is 5" narrower on each side. i'll take it home later and see if it fits. if all is good ill see about trimming the vinyl and moving the piping in towards the middle too.its held in place with cable ties at the moment but if its ok,i'll get some coat hanger metal in there instead

Nice work..... you're onto seats and we haven't finished our engine yet :-)
We are selling bits of our buggy off and weighing in scrap copper to try and pay for bits too!

we havent got an engine yet.ours is siezed so we are miles behind.i need some 2" angle next.new or used i don't mind.need to make some frames to sit on the outriggers and then i can weld the bodyshell onto that.once the body is sat on a frame the car will take shape real fast.missed out on a vauxhall viva engine and box for £35 a few weeks back...gutted. good news with the seat.....pics will be posted tomorrow

I really like this idea. My lad is only 15 months but car mad already, so I can see this sort of project in the not too distant future for us too! Clever getting a kit car as well - by keeping the chassis unmodified you remove the need for IVA too. Some rat-rods have some odd proportions so don't be afraid to push it outside from time to time and look around it from all sorts of angles. The rear arches look good from the back but the fronts seem to kick forwards? I'd be tempted to go fenderless! Taller rear tyres would make a big difference to the look of the car, a strangely enough a good source of tall tyres are commercial vehicles - a pair of 195/70's won't cost much at all part worn. Team up with some skinnier ones up front and it'll get the look you're after.
If you replace the door windows with polycarbonate, they'll be light enough to lift using leather belts, press stud fixed onto the frame. Porsche 356 Carrera's used this method I believe.

mondeo mk2 regulators are great for this sort of thing, just a single lifting bar and motor.

hadn't thought of the strap idea,will def look into that. that's like the old train windows too. will also look into the mondeo lifters,ideally want to keep it looking as basic as possible so will check all the options and see what my son wants. as for the tyres,the low pros in there now are only to move the car around. the rears will be much thicker walled. I like the high back and low front look so that's already on the cards. the rears are 7" wide so would need to see whats available. the fronts are 5" I believe and they will need a bit more rubber than is on them.somewhere in the garage are a set of red wall inserts which will go on too .not sure what you mean by the front wings,they aren't actually attached yet and are literally just sat on the upper wishbones for now to keep the rain off the discs.whatever way though, they will need adjusting loads to suit the car as will the bonnet but that's all part of the build fun I guess. the plan is to get them lined up and the make up some running boards to join the fronts to the rears.......I do like the idea of running boards does me. we are open to all ideas too,there will be tons we haven't even thought of so welcome anything.

Where abouts are you? I've got the engine & gearbox out of my Vitara that you can have for nowt if it'd be of use? There are RWD boxes available too off the X/90. Probably got some tyres too if you let me know a rough size you need.

been walking the dog and spotted a bed frame beingbinned.already taken the magnetic lamp round and checked its steel. drop in tomorrow and see if they mind me taking it.would be ideal to weld to the body and the angle will hang down over the outriggers.woul give us something weld running board supports onto too.only wanting the side sections of the bed frame as they're 6' long sections of angle.
