This is coming on really nicely. I think you've done a cracking job on that interior so if your paint prep is anything like what you've achieved there, you'll be fine. It's a great little motor and by the time you've finished it'll be one to be proud of. Plus there's the added bonus of being able to say: "I did that" ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Wow, thanks for that! For better or for worse "I did that"! My girlfriend has secured me an engine crane because she's just that cool : )

Now that's a proper girlfriend. Can she cook as well? (where's the duck (as in get out of the way) smiley?) I'm a great fan of understated looks but as many HP as you can. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) As said above, great work and an interesting read as well.

I just found this thread. A couple of things: first, huge respect to a single Dad, your son looks like a happy little fellow so clearly you're doing a great job. Raising kids with both parents isn't easy...by yourself? I cannot imagine. Second, great car! Ultra cool. Did you see the article in a recent issue of Octane about the 037 prototype, recenly restored by its original engineer? You'd get the shivers. Third, I agree with those others complimenting your approach to the work: looking good. Keep on truckin'. John in Connecticut

Thanks so much, John! I've been lucky enough to have a great partner who loves little George as her own. She's a school teacher & she teaches kids his age. She's also been instrumental for the administrative parts of this project. I've promised young George that we'll be race car drivers together when he's old enough, and he's already holding me to it & insisting on our racing the Lancia. Pictured is him in his infancy asleep in my Alfa 75 that we both miss very much. I'm still really loving this car, even during the doldrums of its bodywork & paint prep. I am absolutely determined to get a satisfying result from this project, even if it takes me another three years. I'm just as excited about it as I was when I brought it home. I did see that Octane article & linked to it on a Lancia forum a few weeks back. A very candid interview & cool read. octane.com.au/news-events?view=article&id=98:lancia-prototype&catid=8

Very nice.
I love how those wheels look on it.
I really like the change to the 850 tail lights too.
A nice nod to the rally Lancia's

BTW, I've heard that the original tail lights are really expensive.
So don't let them go too cheap, if you get rid of them...

Thanks! I look forward to restoring the wheels properly and giving them some tires.
I've found a very close match for the grill mesh of the Lancia 037 to go behind the 850 tail lights that I got on eBay all the way from Israel. $50 for both was cool by me.
I've been toying with the idea of Alfa Romeo Ocher yellow for the car. Not for sure yet, but I'm liking it. Been distracting myself with a 2012 Triumph Thruxton that I bought in April, and a Volvo C-30 T5 that I just got as a daily. Looking forward to primer dust and compressor noise...

Much thanks, Nigel! I’m still amazed that I own one of these, now complete with the intended bumpers and some other bits that I’m excited about. I was so broke when I bought this car, it costed me literally every dollar I had and then some to both buy and collect it. Still one of my favorite purchases ever.
I haven’t started it in more than two years. I think doing so would likely inspire me...

Just read from start to finish. Keep at it, you are doing a great job and it will be fantastic when finished. Also as said before, you are doing an extremely admirable job balancing life and the car and I applaud you.
Get it started and the mojo will come flooding back.

Car looks so good, it'll be a pretty amazing achievement once it's done (especially given where you're located and getting parts!). That exhaust is awesome.

Beta Montecarlo and an Alfa 75! Man after my own heart. I daily the Montecarlo's little brother, the X1/9. Both were really Bertone projects jointly produced with Fiat/Lancia. Lots of parts shared across the two (and other Fiat bits).
Love the Magnesium Cromodoras. Wonder whether the offset would work with my X1/9...
Is there a plan for an 037-style ducktail at some point?
Oh, and also, if you're poking around the driver's footwell at any point might you be able to snap a picture of the pedal box? I've got Beta Montecarlo rear calipers on my X1/9 to balance the rear braking a little better, but I've got a rather spongey pedal afterwards. As far as I can tell all the hydraulic components are now pretty much shared with the Montecarlo so I'm wondering if there's a difference in pedal leverage ratio that sorts the spongyness...
