Interesting link sent over by mate Craig. www.smythkitcars.com/I guess it would still be up to the builder to to get that finish.

Hmmm, I recall a fair old kerfuffle over that sort of kit and whether it would be 'legal' in the UK a few years ago. Can't remember what the outcome was (I think I got bored...)

If it involves chopping the monocoque, it can be legal after an IVA test, but that's a lot of work

Been watching this guy on FB. He seems to be a bit of a New Beetle fan, creating race, tow and campers from them,. Currently under construction is this camper. I still think there has to be interesting stuff to me made from them, or despite them, if thats your view.

This is a love it or hate it pic. I love that someone built it. I really do not care for the rusted paint finish, especially how all the plastics have rusted. Still, we need these types of builds to continue evolving our hobby. Looking at FB Marketplace, they seem to have stopped dropping in price

The centre of the dashboard looks like it needs white lines down the middle and toy cars placing on either side. So I name the Beetles in order of oldness, the Classic, Newbie and NuNu.

The Beetle conversion can be bought off the shelf from the States.
I may have just pinged an email regarding international shipping...that's right up my street (maybe not ratted out and fake rusted with whitewalls).

Is there one out there with a roofchop?
Why? because that's all it needs to look cool - no easy task though

I will admit I have just spent far too long watching the Smyth videos over on youtube. My other half likes the new beetles & have looked at a few that she has found locally on faceache/pigbay.
Would probably have bought one for her if the ones we looked at hadn't had weird automatic gearbox issues that put me off or were next step up from the scrap yard needing far too much work to be viable. She needs a automatic so a manual wasn't a option. The ones we went to look at were cheap as chips but just had a look today the prices seem to have firmed up somewhat. There is still the odd cheapish beetle but not in the number I remember not that long back nor are the prices as cheap.
Really fancy doing one of the Smyth ute conversions on one as I find them surprisingly appealing.

I’d always wanted a “new” Beetle for some strange reason, but it’s one car I’d never owned, until just now…..
It’s a bit new for this parish (54 plate), but got a few plans for it, so can update this if there’s any interest.

I’d always wanted a “new” Beetle for some strange reason, but it’s one car I’d never owned, until just now….. It’s a bit new for this parish (54 plate), but got a few plans for it, so can update this if there’s any interest. I'm interested please post a few pics OK, so a while back I bought a project car blind, which turned out to be completely scrap, but before it turned up, I'd already got the whole thing planned out in my mind, and stupidly I'd already ordered over 5 litres of paint for it. So for months now, I'd been half looking for something else which I thought would look good in said colour. I spotted a low mileage Beetle Convertible 1.8T 20V (180BHP) at my local Copart. It had been registered Cat N, but god knows why, as the only damage was a crack on the NSR wheel arch (a plastic bolt-on panel) and a scratch on the rear bumper. It was a nice spec with full leather, electric everything, air con, heated seats etc etc. Anyway, it turned up and aside from the damage, it was unmarked apart from 2 small dings on the passenger door. In the glovebox was FSH and a plenty of receipts. It had even been recently serviced and a cambelt and water pump fitted. It also had 4 excellent matching Bridgestone tyres and no notable issues aside from needing a new O2 Sensor, a rear parking sensor and a NSR electric window regulator. All easily sorted. Anyway, I thought silver was a bit of a boring colour for a "fun" design like the Beetle, and the paint I had would make it stand out more. I can also safely tune these up to just shy of 220BHP with minimal outlay, so all in all, a fun, quick little car for not much money. So, the strip down for its full colour change begins..... A good second hand NSR wheel arch sourced for £25 posted, and absolutely no damage whatsoever remains once this is swapped and the rear bumper repainted. Nothing was touched underneath.
