Really like this. Did they ever do a warmer version of these saloons as all of them seem to be 1L or 1.3L at best? 1.3 is the max, don't think the 75bhp GT even made it into the saloon. Plenty of conversion options, G40, 1.4 16v, 1.4 8v, was a coupe on Ebay with a 1.6 8v conversion. Club polo has plenty of info for engine swaps.

I had a saloon with the 1.4 abd from a mk3 golf with multipoint injection and a high lift cam. It went ok but unless your fitting. G40 or similar there not really any point IMO and that includes owning a gt hatch

I can only ever remember owning one saloon as they're too impractical for me. Try getting a fridge freezer or a bonnet into a saloon!

Saloons can be practical. Roof bars, tow bars, removing the boot lid or buying one with folding seats solve most issues. Or just buy a really big saloon, typically one made in 1960s America.

Nah, they're second only to convertibles in their lack of flexibility!
My cars have to earn their keep.

I saw someone moving a garden shed (in the real world that is, no Top Gear or whatever) with a convertible so that statement holds no water.

I saw someone moving a garden shed (in the real world that is, no Top Gear or whatever) with a convertible so that statement holds no water. I had to drive back from Oswestry to North Wales with a 3 door Astra door hanging out of my Vectra saloons boot, practicality is in the eye of the beholder

Having moved a 6' fridge freezer on the roof of a Mk2 Polo I can categorically say it's possible to do. Washing machines are a little more difficult, lifting them high enough to get them stood up in the boot can be hard work but it's not impossible. You'd be amazed what you can shift with a saloon car if you put your mind to it. I've shifted a dining table and two chairs with my Rover 400, helped my brother move house with my Princess, transported numerous bulky things in both these cars too. Back in the 90s my Dad moved a free-standing electric organ in the boot of his Chevette saloon. In more recent years he used his Omega saloon to move a fridge freezer and a washing machine, though he may be cheating by having a trailer to do so. Hatchbacks and estates are undoubtedly easier to load up but experience has taught me almost anything is possible if you want it badly enough.

That colour and those wheels is one of the best combinations they ever put on those.
