Great work, lovely attention to detail and some wonderful character. Just doing up a old 1864 cottage at the moment, been pulling down the old lath and plaster ceilings and come out at the end of the day a good 50 shades darker. I did this on a cottage deep in bandit country many years ago before PPE or 'Elf an Sayftee but at least with a bobble hat, cotton boiler suit and a mask made from a scarf. You've heard the phrase 'batshit crazy'? Well, I can testify it's an actual thing from inhaling too much of the stuff

As everyone has said, lovely work on a great property. It has the owner it deserves. On electrics, my Dad was an apprentice sparky before WW2, and when he showed me how to rewire our house he reckoned it didn't matter where you put the wires, some f'in joiner would drive a nail through them!

Quite a bit done and a fair bit of chasing about for odds that I needed - still waiting for quite a bit of bespoke stuff being delivered that should have been here weeks ago Got the worktop for the sink corner glued, clamped & oiled Fitted once dry Then sorted the plumbing for the sink & dishwasher - all tested just need to wire the fused spur for the dishwasher tomorrow then that can be put into commission Fastened the other corner worktop down and got the first coat of oil on it managed to get about half of the units interiors cleaned out & oiled before calling it a night

Back to the taps.....
Sexy taps are cool.
Interestingly the taps I fitted 5 years ago, now have two leaks on the tap shaft, calcification has closed the pin holes, but I could scratch the surface and open them bigger.
My stainless sink also sprung a pinhole leak in its base. No idea why.

Thought I would save myself some time and rather than collect the electric sockets / switches & other odds which would have meant a 20 mile round trip and a few hours of my time - Screwfix had them all in stock and at competitive prices - free delivery etc - so ordered them on Saturday - e mail back confirming the order and stating it would be with me on Sunday - great stuff - well it would have been had they turned up so I just thought it would appear on Monday - nope - Parcel force tracking number confirms that they haven't a clue where it is - e mail to Screwfix and they don't where it is either - where's my money then ? sat in a Screwfix bank account - eventually they decide to cancel the order and then resend it some time tomorrow - so what should have saved me a couple of hours has actually cost me several phone calls and lost me several hours - I will get off my butt and go to the electrical factors next time - any how - todays progress Completed the plumbing on the waste from the sink to the gully outside - then oiled the remaining unit interiors, shelves & drawers Then got the wall tiles on one side of room I should get this grouted & the other side of the room tiled tomorrow and with a bit of luck the bespoke skirting to the original pattern will turn up.

Still hard it - madam is away in Paris at some fancy exhibition so I can crack on in peace and turn the music up Refitted the shelves / magic corners to the corner units - loads of unseen stuff done - fused spurs for the appliances wired - I don't like these in the tile run - above the countertop if I can help it so I put these inside the cupboards adjacent to the appliances Tiled the sink splash back and around the corner unit Also tiled the cooker splashback - fitted the brushed stainless splashback returns to the cooker reveal sides - managed to grout the tiles above the cooker but still need to grout the rest - wainscot panelling cut and fitted to the reveal pillars and unit sides Lots of joinery completed to finish the cupboard that houses the electricity meter & consumer unit - still needs a trim to finish the top edge / ceiling - The old doorbell box with a bell on a spring is going - I have purchased a new system so that a chime calls both the house and the workshop together - the unit in the workshop also has a blue strobe flash has I don't always hear the chime when I have noisy equipment running Still a ton of stuff to do - will start to have a tidy up tomorrow and loose some of the gear that I no longer need then can start with the decorating - all the units will have a hand painted finish Annoyingly being held up by a couple of suppliers - the door furniture that should have been here on Monday is still not here and the bespoke skirting guy may well be getting the short sharp treatment in the morning - turns out that he has four pages of negative feedback / comment on Trustpilot - I will be paying a visit to him !

Great progress but one important question.
Where is Sid's chubby hole for his basket?

Great progress but one important question. Where is Sid's chubby hole for his basket? Ah - we are going to have see where Sid prefers to site himself - currently he tends to join me in the morning sat at the table in the lounge - he then wonders off and follows the sun spots around the room - my guess is that when the kitchen is finished he will be spoilt for choice with the floor being heated but there is a also a column radiator being fitted to the right hand side of the gothic arched door so my guess is that he will favour that very warm corner (well in winter anyway)

That's good as you have spent all this time sorting out his kitchen so his meals can be prepared properly.

Talking of Sid he's been on my case again Same old story - lots done (lots of unseen hidden stuff) and a mountain of stuff still to do - had a decent clear out of gear & materials Cut, mitred & fitted the cornice to the wall cupboards & installed the new door bell system Gave up on the guy that was supposed to be supplying the skirting to the original pattern - he has now had my order for over a month and promised 7 - 10 days when I placed the order - found another supplier and lost half a day chasing around today to collect it - could only get a little over 2.5 metre lengths in the car so I have had to put a mitre joint in on the long run but it means I could crack on and fit the wainscot panelling Very few images of the chapel in use has a chapel exist but there is a couple of descriptions of the interior in a few local books of the village - then we have a couple that live 4 doors up from us that were the last people to hold a wedding in the chapel - apparently both main rooms had wainscot panelling to the walls with a deep skirting - whilst we have no intentions of replicating the chapel interior we are planning on putting some of period character back in to the property that was ripped out when the chapel was converted Just a few pieces of pre cut skirting to fit in the morning and that is all the joinery completed - I would have normally primed the skirting before fitting it but I am up against it with the timeline so I will just have to push on and prime it insitu

Wainscot panelling ??
So that's what it's called.
I have it in my kitchen, and downstairs utility areas.
Suspect it was installed to hide the 1921 build, rising damp.
Though the walls have been treated to silicon injections to help create a waterproofing membrane.
Yours looks subtle as well.
Mine were stained dark Mahogany, as was most woodwork in the house.
I repainted a loaf of it light cream or beige.
Having a guy like Sid around makes it all worthwhile too.

More done today Fitted the new latches & handles to both of the doors - they will need to come back off to enable me to oil the doors Loads of making good / getting it right before the final decorating - I detest the word snagging - i.e. having to put something right that you could not be bothered to do properly in the first place - it's simply not how I work Then started to get a first coat of primer on the wainscot panels & the frame of the wall units - various shades of grey is the instruction - lightish on the units, slighter darker on the wainscot panelling and a darker grey on the skirting, white on the walls & ceiling

Apologies I have been a bit slow at stating exactly what all of this prevents me from wanting to get done in the first place - much has I really like the place that we live in I would rather be working on my motors but like most of us I have to keep the peace with SWMBO - I have tried getting guys in to do the work but I get really, really pi88ed off at paying good money to guys that just please their selves instead of pleasing the customer - I then have to put right their poor excuse for work - Any how currently I would love to find time to sort this little lot The 1952 Javelin I have owned a long time - it's a great little car - fairly original but needs a couple of engine mountings, a good service and a new windscreen rubber The Rover P6 is a 3.5 V8 Auto 1973 - Owned this one even longer - all original 23,000 miles from new - it refused to start 18 months ago - had a little look at the time - something on the HT side but not had anytime since - now needs sorting and a good clean up Meastro is a 1.3L 1998 - belonged to the father of one of my clients - not really my kind of a car - but one owner and 9,000 miles from new FSH etc just needs a couple of days work to sort the minor cosmetics and get it tested - then I need to move it on Then there is this - it's the front bulkhead from a Jowett Jupiter sports - I also have away in separate storage a chassis, engine, gearbox, back axle, front suspension & all the body panels - kit of parts collected together over a long period from 11 different cars and one day will be the subject of a build Then I have a 1937 Jowett 8 - its in bits (has bought) but with all the drive train rebuilt - lots of new bits but still requires a lot of work - this is also away in separate storage - sorry no pic And just to bring the collection together - I have this - 1943 Jowett stationary engine - needs a cosmetic clean up, new fuel tank and some paint One day when I stop getting earache from SWMBO about work on the house I will attempt some work on the cars / projects - meanwhile 2018 has yet to start and my workshop client booking diary is just about full to capacity - slightly overflowing has I write!

Lots done and still a mountain to climb with this - does not help when SWMBO advises me that the date for the 'Lane Party' is not next Saturday evening 23rd Dec but Friday the 22nd - 'Don't you know - we changed it months ago - I did tell you at the time and it's in the diary' - well she must have told me in my sleep and has for the diary when the hell do I get chance to read things like that ! - Anyway this is how far I have got She wants the heated floor working but due to the staggered coursing pattern I have used I still have half a tile of it exposed / untiled which means I need to extend the tiling into the utility - of course it's far easier said than done ! Means I have hack some of the old curse word slate tiles off the screed in the utility and lay the tile backing board prior to the tiles but also have to start the undertile heating mat for the utility at the same time Tiles now laid but need grouting and then I need to mock up some type of a temporary ramp from plywood for the transaction from the old floor to the new so that no one trips (utility will be an ongoing project through next year) Meanwhile - the ceiling & walls were given the final coat of white emulsion The wainscot panelling and the skirting were given their final coats - I don't like gloss especially in period properties hence everything is being done in an eggshell finish Radiator fitted - I have the slightest of weeps on the rad connector and will have to find time to sort that - but it's up and working -annoyed with the supplier though - these have cost a small fortune but have come without retaining brackets - should be fine free standing they say - I don't think so - I will fabricate something up Unit frames with their first colour coat on Chaos central otherwise has I attempt to get has many of the unit doors into primer has of last night - still tons to do and 4 days left but really need to be in the workshop progressing works there - I have the Bradford restoration clients visiting today and have not planned on have having workshop time off to finish the kitchen - then there will be the can I just do this / sort that requests that will come flooding in any second now - I might just go and hide somewhere I think

Nick Ho - I wish - went to bed at 2 this morning after a mammoth painting session on the unit doors & drawers and just about to start the process all over gain - I'm quite short tempered at present and doing my best to restrain it with SWMBO - I like to do things to my own time frame & detest being rushed - I can see another very late night / early morning finish looming !! and I might just be living up to my forum user name currently
