@the_Liam - starting to think they almost look better at standard height...was that boot strut just off of a breaker? Mine keeps clouting my noggin too. Still on the lookout for interior parts too, been tipped off about a 740 locally that's the same colour as mine so might be of use, still need to investigate...will let you know if anything comes of it. Yours is looking really tidy. I live in Hoo and have seen this around, in fact twice over the weekend! Looks great. (sorry for the hijack) Thanks mate! If you saw a Blue/red Hillman Hunter around Hoo at the weekend that was me too - took it for a ride for a photoshoot and it's stored in that area. Was going back and forth in the Volvo. :-)

Got the boot strut and wiper parts from here mate, very reasonable! www.partsforvolvosonline.com/If you do find one I need front door cards, a nearside A pillar trim and the little panel in the footwell next to the door please, seats would be good as well!

Love a cassette player in an 80's car, managed to find this Alpine for £26, new old stock, in it's original box! Sounds awesome, need new speakers now.

So this lot turned up yesterday... New corner lights and headlamp wipers, really happy with the difference, looks far tidier. Getting better a little bit at a time. Won't bother with pics of the other parts, a boot strut is a boot strut

Thanks man, does the reg make it a Cornish car? The rear plate surround has the name of a Cornish car dealer on it, wasn't sure if that was the dealer who sold it new. That's pretty cool actually, I go to Cornwall twice a year, its going back down there in 5 weeks!

740 saloons are handsome old beasts and yours is a particularly nice colour combination. You don't need to do a think to them to stand out now, there's nothing else like them on the road.

Well, I'd like to have an interesting update but I don't, haven't really made any more changes or found any more parts, just enjoying driving it! I've done 1000 miles in it now, and it's still growing on me. It's just such a nice way to get around, big comfy armchair seats, soft suspension, light steering and clutch and so much torque you can just roll around town in 3rd all day. It's a great cruiser as well.
There's a big test coming up though. In 2 weeks I'm off to Cornwall for a week, so we'll see how it copes with 800 miles there and back of motorway and traffic in (hopefully!) hot weather. I've given it a full service, it's not running hot or losing water, it's driving fine, so hopefully won't end up waiting by the side of the M5 for the AA!
Decided to work out fuel economy (lol) properly, and in a week of to and from work in HEAVY traffic round town it got 21mpg, which sounds awful but my 406 HDI would only do 30mpg in the same conditions, that's how bad the traffic is. On a long run to Newcastle and back for the rugby at 60-70mph on the A1 with very little traffic it gave 32mpg which again I think is fine.
Such great old tanks these!

Spoke too soon, it's dead. Battery started dying when I was driving yesterday, got it home and got it on the charger, did about 5 miles today and it died again. The battery light has always glowed dimly and now it's bright, and a multimeter on the battery when fully charged shows 12.6v with the engine off, and 12.8v running, so that's pretty conclusive, new alternator ordered.
In the meantime I've borrowed my mates '07 Golf GTI while he's in Malta, and much as I hate modern cars, it's actually a great drive once you get used to the weird DSG box.
