I can think of a few, Mk4 golf 2.0 , having to take off the inlet manifold to change the plugs Japanese cars where the have relocated the number plate to the bumper but left the recess in the tailgate. ( cost issues, I know) Asymmetrical designs, like Lupo mirrors one big one small. Any simple job job requiring a special tool , why? Couldn't the designer be bothered to sort it and said curse word it let's let the engineer sort it

It's never really bothered me so much, but the bonnet vent on the RX7 FC isn't central on the bonnet

Similarly, it's always bugged me the BMW 635 exhaust wasn't positioned centrally...

The stupid little rubber link pipe on a mini that goes under the waterpump that just will not fit on, then u realise that when its finally on,and uve cracked ur knuckles, that u didn't put the jubilee clips on, and in taking the rubber pipe back of it splits.

Handbrake location in Hillman Hunters!!!!!! Man does it hurt when one smacks hand into centre console while executing handbrake turn during a gravel sprint. Only other vehicle i've owned with it in same stupid place beside drivers door was a Valiant ute.

4 or 6 spoke wheels with visable 5 stud. When they don't line up it really irritates me. Cars with black windscreen wipers when they should be chrome, or mismatched washerjets like on minis. Anything with wonky twin exhausts. Cars with nice coloured original interior and a pair of black buckets. Big fat harnesses on standard seats. Triumph 2000 look like they should have 5 stud wheels, but they are only 4. Late shape VW Golfs that have the indicator inside the headlight. Why would you do that? I have owned various Minis over the years, and still have scars on the back of my head from the bonnet hooks - doesn't matter where it is - Clubman in the middle, Standard on the right as you're looking at it, or just to be doubly annoying, slightly off-centre for the late model MPi Minis. All stupid

Also the absolute ballache that is changing the master cylinder on a Mini - head under the pedals with your feet where your head normally is and your hands working above and behind your head trying to remove some split pins that a neanderthal has bent so tightly it takes about 2 days to remove them. And the circlips for the rear brake cylinders that are SO much fun to fit..
Of course the other thing that bugs me is BL in the 60s and 70s. So many vehicles basically competed against each other. MGs vs Triumphs, Rovers vs Triumphs, Austins vs Morris etc etc. Never made sense.

Vauxhall using torx bolts in places that really warrant a nice 10/13mm bolt. Like the side bumper mountings on a Vectra B, no access, T25 and a bolt that's an inch longer than it needs to be with such fine threads it can take half an hour a quarter turn at a time. Same car, t30 bolts holding the seats in. With threadlock. They nearly always chew the bolthead, so easier to just attack with a 12mm 12 sided socket.

Just had fun removing a SAAB/GM gearbox turret to replace the bushes - 3 big fat torx bolts 2 of which are in view but needing various extension bars and wobbles . Cosworth putting a hose effectively through the head on the 24v BOA, meaning that if the head gasket's replaced and not trimmed back, the hose gets worn through. It's ok though, you only have to disassemble pretty much the whole top end to fix it...
And the American aversion to drain plugs. What the actual fudgecicles. You have to take the whole diff pan of the Jeep Orvis (A car so bad I could pretty much do a thread like this with it as the sole subject... No centre diff, but permanent 4x4? Genius!), and the TH400. But they wouldn't have been so stupid as to have the dip stick tube come out below the fluid level would they? Oh, wait, yeah. So a fountain of ATF is pretty much inevitable*. Splendid.
* I'm pretty sure that there's a proper way to avoid this, but I avoided learning it... Drain plugs are pretty self-explanatory, So I feel my point still holds water. Or ATF or whatever.

The 'sports' bit means it is a car that can be used by a 'sportsman', that is someone who goes hunting and fishing and stuff in the wilderness. Those guys need something that can go off road and will carry a dead deer home in the back! Not to be confused with the U.K. meaning of 'sports' being a small lightweight car for going fast round corners....

I like the way the old Haynes manuals for the Mini and other stuff of that era suggest what to use in the absence of BL Special Tool No. whatever.

Works with a bench seat or buckets and limits the possibility of a passenger yanking on the handbrake at an inopportune moment while you're driving.

Isn't a shooting brake more of an estate car than a 4x4 off-roader? I always associate shooting brakes with posh chaps out to bag a few pheasants? Not quite the same thing as hunting bear in the Rockies! Same idea, different geography!

People who fit aftermarket wheels to a 4x4 but have a factory one (inevitably smaller) in full view on the tailgate. Just buy five fer crissakes!

I agree in principle, but it would annoy me more buying a new tyre to hang on the back of my motor doing nout.
A better plan is buy a part worn one in the same size and keep it as a spare.

That ferrari highlights my point exactly, except I don't recall EVER seeing a car with mismatched wheeels on the same side!!! There's always this, not sure if BMW were just doing a "I wonder if anyone will notice" when they lent the i8 to Top Gear The central exhaust on a Boxster winds me up, it just reminds me of the fog light on a Peugeot (306, 307?).
