A long time ago, a young lad called Craig went out in his dad's mates M635 CSI, and he was hooked on hot BMWs. And a kernel of a dream was embedded. I'm generally typecast as a J car lover, raving about the Toyota JZ engine and its true, Ive had many, many, many cars, and a large portion of them have been Japanese, and a large portion of that large portion of them have been Toyota 1 or 2JZ powered, but in truth I love a fast BMW. The car I always wanted was an M635 CSI, but that ship has sailed, swept away on the high tide of collectability, so I had to look to something else. The E34 M5 was a car Ive lusted after also, the 3.8 6 speed being my weapon of choice. The problem is you never, ever see them for sale, and when they are they're silly money. So you have to do some digging, turn over a few rocks. My rock flipping paid off. My M5, extended leather, big AP 6 pot brakes, full dealer history. The air suspension has been replaced with Bilsteins which is quite common given the expense and rarity of the stock units. Not perfect, has rust (well duh its a BMW) but nothing too scary, pulls the the left when braking, has an odd flat spot in the rev range but thats it, theres lots and lots of very good points. Ill leave you with some pics and update as I go. But I'm basically in love with it, and the way it sounds 18664377_10154848460133040_7651815521426655617_n by craig allan, on Flickr 18622518_10154848462478040_3883926234145488784_n by craig allan, on Flickr 18582590_10154848462463040_6628407750928670687_n by craig allan, on Flickr 18582223_10154848462453040_578646385950512813_n by craig allan, on Flickr 18620058_10154848462483040_6584655336095099757_n by craig allan, on Flickr 18698248_10154848462628040_3309706758387489547_n by craig allan, on Flickr 18697995_10154848462638040_3201257188051743713_n by craig allan, on Flickr

I'm no expert but should it not have the throwing star alloys? That also, is a holy grail of mine. Love it

Anything from the M side of BMW is epic,
I'd change all the lights back to stock and enjoy it. Lovely looking car.

You may well be right fella. I just remember lusting after one in the same colour with the throwing star alloys. Gorgeous, just gorgeous.

Fantastic thing. Love the engine bay shot.
I think the wheels are right, parallels are pretty much a throwing star without the funky hubcap on anyway :-)

Ooh very nice, I'm quite jealous Liking the big AP brakes M Parr's are right for a later M5, earlier cars got the Throwing Stars or the Turbines Though the wheels which usually hide under a throwing star or turbine aren't half as nice as an M parallel!

Snap I've had mine 12 years spent millions of pounds on it Mines also a 3.8 6 speed I done away with the original suspension (the Nurburgring package this was optional on the early models but std on the 6 speed electronic front dampers and hydraulic rear) And I'm now on KW coilovers The 6 speed was the only car to have the 18" parallels because it had bigger brakes and the 17" don't fit For a big car it handles brilliant Generally only the last 50 had leather interior Rust will be your biggest problem (it hides itself well)

Thanks for all your kind words everyone Very nice They look so good. Where did you millions go? Ive just discovered my ECU has a code 200 - Internal fault. Might explain my running issue... Yes, rust. Ive already found a collapsed jacking point so I'm fully expecting to replace both sills this winter, the front arches have a light dusting breaking through as well but really thats about it. A friend told me "if you don't find rust on an old BM, you're not looking hard enough

Costs have gone on the following Suspension Steering Diff Rust Clutch Full engine rebuild
The biggest problem with the rust is what I would say is a design floor The sun roof drains into the sills and the sill covers restrict the drain holes in the sills so it builds up with mad and dirt and rusts from the inside out

Why did you rebuild your engine Stew? Mines on 168k and sounds very sweet. Braking issue sorted, lower tension arm bush was trashes so a pair of those fitted, now I can enjoy those AP 6 pots. Also the ball joint boots on the upper arms were split due to old age so replaced those too. Might as well replace all the steering arms and links while I at too. Ill never understand why BMW used a steering box!! Tracked down a 3.8 ECU as well, guy had a MAF so Ill replace that as well just in case. Gave it a little wash and polish because it was a nice day too Love this car UntitledUntitled
