I’m another one that had a Mk1 in the 70s as my ride to school bike. Maybe it was something about the geometry of the early ones that made them unstable, but I had a couple of minor offs, and then a massive one. Pushed it to my Auntie’s and never rode it again. Mum and dad bought me a “proper” bike to replace it, a Triumph Traveller. I always hankered for a Raleigh Bomber, which came out shortly after, but they were way too dear for me to stand any chance of getting after the new Triumph. I did eventually get a Bomber a few years ago, and thoroughly enjoyed doing it up and riding it. Eventually though, I moved somewhere hilly where a bike built for teenagers was just too awkward to enjoy, so succumbed to the pestering of a mate and sold it to him. I have an elderly steel BSA frame now, kitted out minimally, which is nice to ride.
