It would appear that several of on here appreciate a fine blend of 'Botanicals' so I thought that we would have a thread on it - very much on the up with new distilleries opening on a weekly basis - I sort of started to get into it several years ago and have since amassed a collection from around the world of various gins now in excess of 50 bottles Some of my personal favourites - Bloom, Ungava, Masons & Butlers On the front of the Chapel is the original entrance porch which does not really serve any purposeful function (we use the back door has the front door - has this leads out to the parking area, garden, workshop etc) The porch is also not that big in size - so what to do with it - well once refurbished, new door & frame fitted, new lighting & racked with glass shelves - it will become my gin bar It's a few projects down the line but it's nice to have plans So maybe you might like to post up your favourite or maybe you have a secret recipe and a still on the go ? Not that I would want to name any names at all Mr Frankenhealey

There's a few that have etched themselves into my memory of late, Conker, Trevethen and Monkey 47 amongst the best, but the one that really stands out is a dutch number caller Rutter. Find it, drink it, (about 50/50 with decent tonic and a little smash of fresh mint), thank me later. I look forward to seeing the completed gin sanctuary!

Rambla 41 which I got online. Incredible, tasted of thyme and rosemary. I also got gin in Menorca, it had a windmill on it, that was awesome as well. Since it's in your picture I found the Bloom a bit tasteless.
Serious time now though, straight, ice, tonic?

Not researched, or looked into it, but do like a bit of Gin.
My dad had a stil for all his years, very basic and used mums pressure cooker to raise the alcohol for his well known moonshine.
It may be something to give a go some time.
I think I will enjoy the process.

In excess of 200 million litres which accounts for just under 50% of the worlds gin production is made in 'Manila' branded 'Ginebra San Miguel'

There's another Philippine gin called BAR. If you are ever offered it, run a mile or top up your battery. Your choice! We're also home to Emperador "brandy" another huge global seller. A very different animal to Cognac, but not half bad.

Ahhh, Gin. My third favourite vice... I've been getting more in to interesting flavours recently. The rhubarb gin by Warner Edwards is amazing. I ordered a bottle over for the gf for her birthday as I knew she would love it. It cost me 2x again in postage and duty, but still worth it. Another good odd one is Four Pillars' Shiraz Gin. Both are perfect neat. Not sure if you guys have tried Ink Gin? It's the blue one that goes various shades of pink/Orange depending on what you add to it. As for a more typical gin, Hendricks and Botanist are what got me on to gin in the first place. I have a large ccollection of gin bottles too. The problem is they're mostly all empty! I'll line em up and take a pic once I get my extra bookshelves sorted. I have been thinking of distilling my own, too. We recently had a pair of teens go blind from screwing up the process, so got to be careful. Matt

Try to avoid that. You can also make your own tonic, as I found out at a pop-up cocktail bar few nights ago. Apparently it's not too tricky, but you have to make sure you filter it well, otherwise the bits from the bark involved can do you a massive mischief. It's a risky business this G&T stuff!

Apparently the main ingredient tin proper tonic is just the thing to keep it at bay - it's not solely the quinine, there's a wealth of compounds in there that work together to keep you healthy!

I can't stand the taste of tonic or soda water, so I either drink it neat, occasionally on ice, although it's easier to keep a bottle in the freezer, or sometimes in cocktails.

Just resurecting this thread to make a confession. I had a couple of 5 pound off Lidl vouchers, so, having a look at the interesting bottles of 'own brand' gin, got a bottle of orange and passionfruit infused gin (I like the J2O soft drink). Now, I am not a gin drinker and I know what GN will think of my 'experiment' but it doesn't taste too bad, probably some sort of aquired taste, but it could be something that Elon Musk might want to use to fuel the next Falcon 5 Dragon liftoff. Must take care not to spill it on the woodwork.

Nothing wrong with experimenting I know of several 'Gin Critics' that will readily go for a cheapish bottle of Beefeater London Dry over a £50 - £60 bottle of some exotic faffed around with Gin infused with the chilled leaf tips of the rare lunar tree distilled by Tarquin Hipster & Co Has an aside I think I'm at 90 + bottles now

I don't drink very often, but when I do its generally Rum, usually Morgans Spiced. Id tried a couple of Gins and didnt like them, then I tried a Bottle of Silent Pool. I love the place its from, and its actually made with water from the silent pool, which I didnt know until I bought it. Id recommend it, because I really like it, and that was a first for a Gin for me.

i know gin seems to be en vogue the last few years, but ive drank it for over 25 yrs.
i've tried the excellent aldi and lidl flavoured gins as well as some of these modern brands, but i think my favourite is actually beefeater.
mixer is key too, i like bitter lemon, that fever tree tonic is overpriced garbage, and ruins a nice gin.

Been to it - I managed the restoration of it !! - it was literally less than half a mile up the road from the office of the company that used to work for - a specialist waterways civil engineering company
