So I have always wanted a little polo, I am a beetle owner throw and throw but have a soft spot for mk2 polos. Anyway I took a punt on one and seems I am not the owner (yet to be collected) of a mk2f 1.0l which is in pieces (completely in bits (The whole car)) So... what can you all tell me about them?

We have a Mk2 prefacelift and we love it. Its on a cheapy cheap lowering kit, but it weighs three tenths of sod all, and feels like you're doing 100mph when you do 40mph...

I flipping love them! I'm on my 7th! Easy to work on, cheap parts. Loads you can do. VW parts interchangeable.
If you want to get them really really low it will cost you. The cheapest coilovers are £400. However there is a plethora of cheap fixed height kits. @slackerthepinstriper is selling an entry level -80mm kit which would be a good start.
I run mine lowered 60/40.

Awesome feed back from everyone... be a while before i'm even thinking of putting suspension on this thing. It is completely stripped, so rear axle off, suspension off, engine out, interior is completely gone etc. Proper wee project

They're really simple to work on. What's the shell like? Main rust areas are the battery tray and the backs of the sills, especially on the Driver side where the petrol tank filler neck runs.

"What are the cheapest coilovers?" everyday! The clubpolo forum used to be great as well. Been on there for 14 years! It's died a death recently though. ClubG40 is a bit better.

So I went and seen it this week (yes I bought it blind as a bat lol) its really solid, first thing I checked was the battery tray and the sills, neither have been welded, battery tray was mint and still all original paint. The fuel filler flap has been deleted originally owner had the plan of running a fuel cell, and the fuel tank is also gone. Hopefully get it lifted next weekend and will start a thread for it. Going to be something different when its done hopefully.
